Description
At the E end of a much-quarried hummock in undulating grassland. This childrens' burial ground is defined by a roughly L-shaped unenclosed area (L 9m; Wth 4.3m) within which numerous set limestone blocks indicate graves aligned E-W. Quarrying has encroached upon it at NW. (O’Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 488) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 29 August 2019
- GA098-042 Ringfort - rath
Description
In level marshy grassland, c. 30m SW of a stream. Subcircular rath (43.5m NNW-SSE; 32.5m ENE-WSW), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse. There is a wide gap (Wth 7.2m) at S. The bank is cut by a boreen at NW and N, and by a field wall at S and SW. Two shallow hollows within the interior appear to be modern. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 January 2017
- GA098-043 Ringfort - rath
Description
In gently undulating grassland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a subcircular enclosure (c. 27m E-W; c. 25m N-S). On the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) it is indicated by a curving line of hachures from E to S and by a curving field boundary from S to W. An ENE-WSE running field boundary cut across it from E to WSW and another NNE-SSE running boundary off this one cut it a t SSE. All that survived on inspection in April 1985 was a low scarp curving from E to S. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 19 July 2019
