- GA031-035 Castle - tower house
Description
On a slight rise in gently undulating grassland, surrounded by a field system (GA031-035001-). In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Melaghlin Mc an Abbe' (Nolan 1901b, 122). All that survives is a rectangular depression (L 11.7m, Wth 7.5m) surrounded by grassed-over banks of collapsed rubble. An internal division is visible within the depression. Description
Surrounding a castle (GA031-035----). A series of poorly preserved banks, lazy beds and depressions, forming no coherent plan, cover an area c. 150m NE-SW by c. 100m NW-SE. Two small semicircular mounds, close to SE limits, may be collapsed limekilns. A number of drainage ditches are also visible to SW of the castle and a possible trackway to N.
