Description
Just above HWM on N shore of the island. The well (GA050-010001-) and the 'Monument' (GA050-010003-) indicated on OS 6-inch maps as being dedicated to St Brendan are locally associated with St Columcille and visited on his day (pers. comm. T. Robinson). The well consists of a small smooth rounded pothole (D c. 0.3m) on a flat rock outcrop. A semicircular drystone cairn (GA050-010002-) (D 1.2m, H 1.2m) has been built around its S side. Circa 1m SE is the 'Monument': this is a similar cairn, D-shaped in plan (D 1.2m, H 1.45m). Coins and the remains of flowers are visible amongst the stones of both cairns. The well known locally as St Brendan's Well (GA050-010004-) lies 50m to W just below HWM, and consists of a natural pothole (D 0.4m) with an irregular cairn (GA050-010005-) (H 1.2m) above it (info. T. Robinson). Noted by O'Flaherty in 1684 as a 'place in memory of St. Brendan' (Hardiman 1846, 104). - GA050-011001 Church
Description
In the SW corner of a large rectangular graveyard close to the E shore of the island. This is a small poorly preserved medieval church (E-W; L 10m, Wth 3.7m). Apart from the flat-headed doorway and aumbry in the S wall, no architectural features survive. Traces of an internal division exist at the E end. A subcircular burial area (GA050-011002-) to the NE of church is defined by a low wall of irregular boulders. It contains a ruined leacht (GA050-011003-) with a cross-inscribed pillar (GA050-011004-) (Higgins 1987, ii, 281, no. 12). A round pebble carved with a three-line Greek cross provenanced to this church or associated graveyard is now in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin (ibid., 403-4, no. 122). No trace was found of the 'well (GA050-011005-) just to south of church' (Killanin 1954, 101). (O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 121, 125; Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 387) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. - GA050-011002 Graveyard
Description
On the E side of Inis Ní, overlooking Cloonile Bay. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a roughly subcircular graveyard (c. 30m NE-SW; c. 27m NE-SW) with a ‘St. Mathias’s Chapel’ (GA050-011001-) immediately outside its boundary at WSW. On the 1898-9 resurvey of the map both elements are incorporated into a larger graveyard, roughly trapezoidal in shape (c. 80m NE-SW; c. 77m NW-SE). Traces of the earlier burial area (40m N-S; 20m E-W), defined by a boundary wall constructed of large and small boulders, are visible in the E half of the graveyard in a slight hollow. It may mark the original monastic hermitage. The greatest concentration of burials occurs in its S half where rows of neat stone-lined graves with upright headstones are orientated E-W. A leacht (GA050-011003-) and its associated cross-inscribed pillar (GA050-011004-) are visible at SE. A low rough bolder wall divides this area and the N half is c. 1.5m lower. Fewer burials are visible in this section and they are of recent date. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 12 June 2018
- GA050-011003 Leacht
Description
This much-ruined leacht (2.5m N-S; 2.3m E-W) is located in the graveyard (GA050-011002-). Only its W side is clearly defined; the other three are all disturbed. A cross-inscribed pillar (GA050-011004-) is associated. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 8 August 2016

Description
This limestone cross-slab (H 1.08m; Wth 0.22m; H 0.08m) is located at the SE end of a much-ruined leacht (GA050-011003-). It is decorated with a simple grooved Latin cross (H 0.34m; arm span 0.17m). The top of the cross is rounded and the arms end in roughly T-shaped terminals. The base expands slightly (Higgins 1987, vol. II, 281, no. 12). Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 8 August 2016

Description
On Colt Island, a small island between NW tip of Inis Ní and the mainland. This island is also known locally as Oileán an Fort and according to local tradition a 'fort' once stood here guarding the narrow crossing-point. Destroyed during construction of bridge and causeway in 19th C. It may have been just a bailiff's hut (pers. comm. T. Robinson). No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
