- GA022-043 Church
Description
On S shore of Streamstown Bay almost directly opposite Doon Castle on N shore (GA022-032----). A very poorly preserved church (E-W; L 13.3m, Wth 5.10m). Only short lengths of N and S walls survive above foundation course while E gable, in which OS Letters show a doorway, is totally gone. No architectural details are visible but it is probably of late 17th- or early 18th-C date. Located within a graveyard which also contains a fine cross slab (Higgins 1987, vol. II, 345). (Killanin 1954, 96; O'Flanagan 1927a, Vol. 3, 87-8) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

- GA022-043002 Cross-slab
Description
Located in Kill graveyard (GA022-043001-), this cross-slab is reputed to have been brought here from High Island. However, its composition and iconography suggest that it is originally from Caher Island (White Marshall and O’Rouke 200, 159-60, Fig. 125). The slab (H 1m; Wth 0.34m; T 0.07m) bears an outline Latin cross in bold relief which is framed in a sunken background within a weathered margin. There is a large central boss and four smaller ones, one in the centre of each arm. A small projection is evident on both sides of the top arm and this motif is also found on Caher Island (Fisher 2014, 226, no. 63). (Higgins 1987, vol. II, 345, no. 70) Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 5 May 2016

Disappears into uncut bog at NW and E ends. A subcircular hut (D 1.8-2m int.), defined by a low bank of earth and stone, lies c. 3m S o3f the wall. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
