• GA042-158 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  In gently undulating grassland. Circular cashel (D 47.1m), in fair condition, defined by a drystone wall overlain throughout by a field wall. Field-clearance rubble lies against the outer wall-face from N through E to SSW. A field wall cuts the monument at N and E. There is a CBG (GA042-158002-), a souterrain (GA042-158001-) and a possibly later rectangular house (E-W; L 14m, Wth 8m) within the interior. • GA042-158001 Souterrain
  Description

  Within a ringfort (GA042-158----) and partially underneath a rectangular house. A drystone-built souterrain consisting of at least three chambers connected by two creeps. Access to 1st chamber (L 4.5m, Wth 1.5m), running NW-SE, is via a small gap at SE end. About midway along NE wall, a creep (L 1.1m, Wth 0.85m, H 0.7m) leads to 2nd chamber (L 5.9m, Wth 1.4m) which runs NE-SE. The 3rd chamber lies c. 3.6m to SE of 1st chamber. It is subcircular in plan (NE-SW c. 4m) and runs NNE-SSW. Access is gained at SSE side. There is a creep (Wth c. 1m) at NW which probably leads to 1st chamber.   Description

  Within a ringfort (GA042-158----). Dense overgrowth obscures the CBG which is thought to exist in E sector. No visible surface traces elsewhere. A souterrain (GA042-158001-) and rectangular house site also lie within the interior of this ringfort.
