• GA122-114 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  In grassland. This poorly preserved circular cashel (diam. c. 28m) is defined by a low drystone wall, which is overlain by the townland boundary wall from SW to N and by a field wall from N to E. Within the interior the foundations of two rectangular buildings are evident: (a) to the NE (WNW-ESE; L 14.2m; Wth 7.5m) has an internal division at its E end, and (b) to the SW (NW-SE; L 11.8m; Wth 6.5m). These may be the remains of two of the three buildings shown on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map; no visible surface trace of that shown in the SE quadrant survives.   Description

  Within the W sector of the interior of a cashel (GA122-114----). Numerous small collapsed headstones mark the burials. One lintelled grave (L 0.77m; Wth 0.33m) was also noted. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 27 March 2020

• GA122-115 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On the E-facing slope of a rise in undulating grassland. This subcircular rath (54.9m E-W; 52m N-S), in fair condition, is defined by an overgrown bank (base Wth 4.4m at NW; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 0.84m) from E through S to N. A field wall cuts through the monument at N and NE and no visible surface trace of the enclosing element survives to the N of it. A gap at ESE appears to be modern. Possible internal divisions are evident. A later field wall (H at E 1.95m; Wth 1.6m) encircles the bank. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 25 January 2018
