- GA108-204001 Burial mound
Description
On a gentle W-facing slope in grassland. A poorly preserved subcircular flat-topped earthen mound (base Wth 13.5m N-S; top 2.8m; max. H 1.7m). Hawthorn trees are growing on it at NE, SE and W. According to local information, unbaptised children were buried here (see GA108-204002-); the area underwent extensive field clearance and the mound was formerly surrounded by trees. - GA108-205 Ringfort - rath
Description
In grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (41m NE-SW; 37m NW-SE) defined by a tree-lined bank and traces of an external fosse. A field bank cuts through the monument at NE and SE and no visible surface trace of the enclosing elements survives to the E of it. Description
At the S end of a ridge in grassland. Very poorly preserved oval rath (51.5m N-S; 33.5m E-W) defined by a scarp. A silage pit has been dug into the interior at E. A rectangular hollow in the NW quadrant is the result of quarrying. A children’s burial ground (GA108-206001-) is associated. Description
Detached five-bay single-storey vernacular house, dated 1773, having recent flat-roofed entrance porch to front (north) elevation. Pitched thatched roof with rendered chimneystacks, one towards centre, others to gable ends. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth render plinth course. Somewhat enlarged square-headed window openings with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows having render sills. Square-headed door opening with replacement uPVC door. Dressed limestone sill or door lintel to site with carved date. Single-bay single-storey outbuilding to east end, having corrugated-iron roof, rendered walls, and square-headed openings. Yard to front with recent metal gate and rendered boundary walls.
