  Description

  In low-lying marshland and rock outcrop. Named 'Toberdonaghbaun' in Gothic script on the 1838 and 1920 editions of the OS 6-inch maps. According to the OS Letters (O’Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 311), this spring well was known as ‘Tobar Dhonchadha Bháin … the well of Dennis bane (the white, or fair-haired)’.   Description

  In low-lying marshland. Named ‘Toberbellananima’ in Gothic script on the 1838 and 1920 editions of the OS 6-inch maps. According to the OS Letters (O’Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 311), the well was known as ‘Beúl an Anmh … the mouth of the soul’. It is one of three natural springs that feed a short NE-SW flowing tributary of a stream to the SW. Named ‘Open Well’ on the current OSi digital mapping. • GA095-101 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  In low-lying pastureland. Excavated in 1970 by E. Rynne (pers. comm.), this circular ring-barrow (diam. 11m) comprised a low earthen mound (diam. 5.5m) encircled by a fosse and external bank. Three concentrations of cremated bones were uncovered: in the central mound, in the fosse at SW, and in the fosse at NE. Fragments of bronze and over 80 glass beads accompanied the bone at NE, suggesting an Early Iron Age date for the barrow. The monument was destroyed as a result of quarrying n the early 1980s and no visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 14 August 2019

  Description

  On a hillock in undulating pastureland. This small circular enclosure (diam. 8.2m) is defined by a bank of earth and stone. Upright boulders mark an entrance gap (Wth 1.2m) at SE. The interior is obscured by field-clearance rubble. Lynch Athy (1914, 136) recorded that the monument was known locally as ‘Lisheen na Shinawn ("fort of the fairy wind")’ and that it was said to be the burial place of a soldier. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 138, no. 8a) as a ‘hut circle’. Possibly a barrow or a house site. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 30 July 2019

  Description

  Freestanding octagonal-plan reinforced concrete water tower, built c.1960, consisting of three-stage tower supporting projecting water holding tank. Painted channelled rendered walls, having square-headed recessed panels to each face, having fluted platband to base of water holding tank. Square-headed window openings set in recesses, with fixed metal-framed windows with toughened glass. Square-headed door opening having painted double-leaf sheeted timber door with concrete canopy over.
