- GA094-060 Ringfort - rath
Description
On the crest of a ridge in grassland. Circular rath (diam. 28m), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. Internal stone-facing is visible on the inner bank at SW. The fosse and outer bank survive from WSW to NW. A number of gaps breach the inner bank. (Athy 1914, 139; McCaffrey 1952, 123, no. 25) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 3 April 2018
- GA094-061 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle N-facing slope in grassland. This well-preserved subcircular rath (30.5m N-S; 27m E-W) is defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. Internal stone-facing is evident on the inner bank from N through E to SE. The fosse and outer bank survive only from W to NW. Numerous gaps in the banks appear to be modern. Athy (1914, 139) refers to a possible standing stone in ‘a faintly marked circular depression’ (diam. c. 13.7m), immediately to the NW. According to local information, the same spot marked the site of a souterrain. However, on inspection the depression proved to be a natural feature and the stone appears to be a dressed stone flag of no antiquity. A children’s burial ground (GA094-062001-) lies within the interior. (Athy 1914, 139; McCaffrey 1952, 123, no. 24) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 3 April 2018
- GA094-062001 Children's burial ground
Description
Within the S half a rath (GA094-062----). Known locally as a 'killeen', this children's burial ground consists of an irregular unenclosed area within which a number of haphazardly placed set stones are visible. According to local information, plague victims were buried here in the 17th C. Lynch Athy (1914, 139) recorded that it was the custom whenever a burial occurred here the mourners gathered at St Cornane's Well (GA094-069----), c. 208m to the SSE, to wash three corners of the sheet that covered the coffin and to pray for the deceased person's soul. (McCaffrey 1952, 123, no. 24) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Edited by: Olive Alcock Date of revised upload: 27 April 2023
- GA094-063 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle S-facing slope in grassland. Described by Athy (1914, 139) as a small wooded enclosure that may have been a rath or 'merely a plantation protected by a bank'. McCaffrey (1952, 124, no. 28) classified it as an ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 28m) defined by a bank and fosse. The remains of a stone revetment were visible on the inner face of the bank. The monument has been levelled and no visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 3 April 2018

Description
According to local information, there is a souterrain here (SMR file). When visited in 1992 the area consisted of rough grassland. A golf course was being developed to the N and the 1st green was c. 80m to the NE. No visible surface trace of it was noted. A housing estate has since been built here and the possible souterrain may have been filled in or covered over. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 2 March 2017

The inner bank survives all round but is overlain by a later field wall from N to E. A trackway cuts through the monument at WNW and ESE. According to McCaffrey (1952, 143-4, no. 14) a possible enclosure (GA095-128002-) lay immediately to the W. (Athy 1914, 138-9) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 9 April 2018
