• GA106-156 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a low hill in undulating pastureland and close to a turlough to the NW. This circular rath (diam. c. 35m), in fair condition, is defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is very low from N to E to WSW and barely visible from WSW to N. The fosse is clearly visible all round. The outer bank is low and a number of gaps are evident in its W half. A causewayed gap (Wth 5m) at NE may be original. The interior is raised above the external ground level.   Description

  Within the interior of a rath (GA106-156----), just WNW of the centre. This L-shaped depression (L >25.3m) may mark the site of a souterrain. • GA106-158 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle rise in undulating pastureland. Poorly preserved irregularly shaped rath (c. 75m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (base Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.2m). The bank is visible from S through W to NE. A gap (Wth 2.5m) at NNE appears to be modern. There is a souterrain (GA106-158001-) in the NW sector of the interior. • GA106-158001 Souterrain
  Description

  In the NW sector of a rath (GA106-158----). This drystone-built souterrain (L >20.5m), roughly L-shaped in plan, consists of three chambers and two creeps. Access is gained at the SE end of the 1st chamber (L 5m; Wth 1.6m max.; H 1.76m max.) which runs SE-NW. Traces of the side-walls (L 2m) extend to the SE indicating that the chamber extended further in this direction. At its NW end a simple creep (Wth 0.9m) leads to the 2nd chamber (L 7.5m; H 1.45m max.), which also runs SE-NW. Another creep at the N end of W side-wall leads to the 3rd chamber (L >6m) which is inaccessible due to collapse. It appears to run NE-SW.   Description
