  Description

  In pasture, on a level area. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It was indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map by a broken line enclosing a circular area (diam. c. 35m), the interior of which was planted with trees.   Description

  In woodland with dense undergrowth, on the N side of a stream. There are no visible remains of this possible fulacht fia. Springs rise to the NW and NE and appear to drain into the stream via a small N-S channel, bisecting the area of the fulacht fia.   Description

  An E-W road bridge spanning the Deenagh River. Built of random rubble. Five segmental arches with roughly shaped voussoirs and cut-stone keystones. Three low pointed cutwaters built of ashlar appear to be additions to upstream side of piers. This bridge is named 'Mill Br.' on the 1846 OS 6-inch map.   Description

  A mound of burnt material (c. 11m N-S; 4.4m E-W), which covered a hearth and an oval trough, was excavated in 2002 prior to the construction of a housing estate (Kiely 2004c, 218). A calibrated radiocarbon date of 1892-1540 BC was obtained from the lower of two layers of the burnt material and four stake holes, found 2m W of the hearth, may have marked the location of a windbreak (ibid.).   Description

  An irregular mound (5m x 5m) of heat-shattered stones and some charcoal was excavated in 2002 prior to the construction of a housing estate (Kiely 2004c, 218). The mound overlay two troughs, 2m apart, one of which was subcircular (diam. c. 1.7m) and contained a small concentration of animal bones in its fill.   Description

  A mound (5.8m x 2.2m) of burnt material was excavated in 2002 prior to the construction of a housing estate (Kiely 2004c, 218). The mound overlay a rectangular partially stone-lined trough (2.5m x 1.8m; D 0.55m) and 0.3m E of the trough was a stone-lined hearth (ibid.). A calibrated radiocarbon date from the Middle Bronze Age (1490-1200 BC) was obtained from charcoal from the hearth (ibid.). • KE066-144006 Barrow - ditch barrow
  Description

  Discovered during archaeological excavations in advance of the construction of a housing development in 2002 (Kiely 2004c, 218-9). The ditch barrow (ext. 5.5m x 4m) consisted of a circular area defined by a fosse (Wth 0.4-0.5m; D 0.16-0.2m) ESE-N. The entrance (Wth 3.5m) faced NE. A cremation pit (0.25m x 0.16m; D 0.19m), which contained the cremated remains of an adult, occurred under the fosse at S and has been radiocarbon dated to the Iron Age (400-170 BC) (ibid.). A slot-trench, a hearth and a variety of stakeholes were also found to the E of the ditch barrow (ibid.). • KE066-144007 Metalworking site
  Description

  Discovered during archaeological excavations in advance of the construction of a housing development in 2002 (Kiely 2004c, 218-9). An oval hearth, with a linear feature (3.2m x 0.9m x 0.29m) at its SW end, was considered by the excavator to have been probably used for smithing. Slag and tuyere fragments were recovered from the fills of the hearth. A small truncated pit, possibly a second hearth, contained slag and charcoal in its fill. It was 4m to the NE of the oval hearth. Cereal grains and arable weeds were recovered from the pit. Two stake holes were also located c. 4m to the E of the hearth.   Description

  Discovered during archaeological excavations in advance of the construction of a housing development in 2002 (Kiely 2004c, 218-9). A burnt pit or furnace (0.65m x 1.17m; D 0.18m) contained the base of a shaft furnace. A calibrated radiocarbon date from the medieval period (AD 1270-1390) was obtained from one of the fills of the pit. Fragments of charcoal were also recovered from some of the fills. A linear feature was situated directly north-east of the pit and both it and the pit cut a U-shaped NE-SW fosse (5.8m x 1.4m; D 0.44m). • KE066-144009 Habitation site
  Description

  Discovered during archaeological excavations in advance of the construction of a housing development in 2002 (Kiely 2004c, 218-9). A trench (6m x 3m) contained four burnt layers, the largest of which measured 1.4m by 1.6m. It included fragments of charcoal, slag, burnt bone and six end scrapers. A calibrated radiocarbon date from the Early Bronze Age (2030-1870 BC) was obtained. A concentration of thirty-five circular steep-sided round-bottomed stake-holes, some of which contained end scrapers and flint debitage, was also excavated within the trench and the excavator concluded that these may have formed a number of screens or windbreaks.
