- KE080-033 Megalithic structure
Description
O'Connell and Henry both referred to a 'dolmen' on the SE facing slope of Bentee (NMI; 1957, 75). It is situated in dense forestry, but could not be located. From a photograph by O'Connell, the site appears to be a roofed lamb shelter. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 94. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 28 July 2013
- KE080-034 Hut site

Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1427. - KE080-035 Standing stone
Description
This standing stone is located in a forestry plantation on the lower SE slopes of Bentee mountain. It is 1.37m high, and measures .98m x .32m at base; NE-SW. A short distance to the NW, on the same slope, is a stone pair (KE080-036----). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 143. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 28 July 2013
- KE080-036 Standing stone - pair
Description
Two stones, one prostrate, are situated close to a modern field boundary on a SE slope of Bentee mountain. A slender block, heavily inclined towards SE, stands 1.95m high and is orientated NE-SW on its longer axis; .55m x .45m. Prostrate at its base at W, and partly concealed in the ground, is the second stone which measures c. 3.4m long and .55m wide at its S end (Ó Nualláin 1988, 253). Only one 'Gallaun' is indicated on the OS maps. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 117. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 28 July 2013
- KE080-045 Ogham stone
Description
Located on the S side of a rocky spur which extends E from Bentee mountain, this ogham stone stands at the edge of a forestry plantation about 530m NW of Killogrone ecclesiastical site (KE080-046001) and close to the junction of Canburrin, Killoe and Killogrone townlands. When first noted, only its upper .45m protruded from the peat-cover of the slope; the stone was subsequently dug out (The Kerryman, 20/5/1939). Of sandstone and irregular in elevation, it now stands 1.2m high and measures .27m x .18m at base. Macalister (1945, 224) read the inscription as: ANM CALUMANN MAQ[. . . The initial vowel notch is no longer apparent, nor is the third notch of the U. Only four grooves of the Q survive, and it may have been a C. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 910. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 29 July 2013
- KE080-048 Hut site
Description
Marked sheepfold on the OS maps, this site, along with a sheepfold in the neighbouring townland (KE080-047----), is situated within a forestry plantation and could not be located. Prior to afforestation, Henry described the rubble foundations of several round enclosures, possibly sheepfolds, and recorded the remains of old field boundaries nearby (1957, 82). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1428. The enclosure is roughly constructed, with a basal row of intermittent uprights along its inner wall-face. It is divided internally, and its interior is filled with stone collapse. It may have functioned as an animal pen. D: 10m x 8m. (1) A rectangular drystone hut lies directly N of the enclosure. D: 5.5m x 2.2m. H: 1m. T: .7m. (2) The rough foundations of a rectangular hut, 5m SW of the enclosure. D: 2.2m. (3) Rough foundations of a rectangular hut, directly S of the enclosure. D: 4.5m x 2.2m. (4) Further S, another rectangular hut. D: 2.7m x 1.65m. A 3m wide trackway runs E-W on the N side of the complex, its sides delimited by upright slabs and boulders. Description
In rough hill pasture, on a bog on the lower N-facing slopes of Beenduff. This trackway (Wth c. 2.5m) is defined by two parallel rows of contiguously set stones (T 0.45m; H 0.5m) protruding above the surface of the bog. It extends (L c. 120m) in a general WSW direction from a N-flowing river. Several gaps are visible in the defining stones towards the W end. Intermittent traces of the trackway are evident for c. 200m to the E of another river to the E. There are four hut sites (KE080-053----, KE080-053003-, KE080-053004-, KE080-053005-) and an enclosure (KE080-053002-) c. 50m to the S. (For descriptive account see O'Sullivan and Sheehan 1996, 394-5, no. 1178). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
