- KE057-014 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture, on a S-facing slope. This rath has been levelled and is evident as a circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by a low rise (Wth 11m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.4m) SW-S. An external fosse (Wth 2.5m) is evident NNE-SE. The water from a nearby spring skirts the fosse externally. The interior slopes down to a poorly drained area in the S sector. Three other raths (KE057-013----, KE057-015----, KE057-016----) are c. 150m to the WSW, c. 30m to the E and c. 150m to the E, respectively. - KE057-015 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture, on a break on a S-facing slope. A circular area (diam. c. 36m) defined by a low grass-covered earthen bank NW-SE and by an earthen bank (Wth 5.45m; int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1.4m), which has been incorporated into the field boundary system, SE-NW. There is a possible souterrain (KE057-015002-) in the centre of the interior. This rath was described in the 1840s as being 'close to a well' (OSNB, Kilcolman, no. 2, 7) and there is a well (KE057-015001-) adjacent to it at N. Two other raths (KE057-016----, KE057-014----) are c. 70m and c. 30m to the E and W, respectively. A third rath (KE057-013----) lies c. 200m to the WSW. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011
- KE057-015001 Well
Description
On the N side of a rath (KE057-015----). Described in the 1840s as a 'well' close to a 'fort' in Farranmanagh townland (OSNB, Kilcolman, no. 2, 7). A natural spring, defined by a narrow shallow E-W channel, which flows into the adjacent field to the W. - KE057-015002 Souterrain
Description
In a rath (KE057-015----). According to local information, steps in the centre of the rath lead underground (SMR file). There are no visible remains of this possible souterrain. H 0.3m) NW-SE and by a scarp SE-SSW. The bank along the W arc has been incorporated into the field boundary system and is covered in overgrowth. Two other raths (KE057-015----, KE057-014----) are c. 80m and c. 150m to the W, respectively. A third rath (KE057-013----) lies c. 350m to the WSW.
