  Description

  In pasture, on the summit of a low hill. A circular area (42m E-W) defined by a bank (Wth 8.9m; int. H 1.5m; ext. H 2.5m) of earth and shale. The level interior is slightly higher than the outer ground level. There are cattle gaps along the bank at N and NNE. A recent break through the bank at W allows machinery access to the interior. There is a possible entrance (Wth c. 2m) at E. A lane skirts the bank externally SW-NW.   In level pasture, on the break of a SW-facing slope. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. • KE058-044 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a steep SW-facing slope, at the N edge of a deep ravine. A circular area (31.5m E-W) defined by two earthen banks with an intervening fosse and the remains of a possible third bank at ESE. The interior is defined by the inner bank (Wth 4.1m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.8m) SW-SSE and by a scarp SSE-SW. The intervening fosse (Wth 2.4m at the base) is evident WSW-SE. The middle bank (Wth 3.4m; int. H 1.3m; ext. H 3.15m) is evident SW-SE. The SE end of the middle bank terminates at the edge of the ravine. The possible outer bank is evident ESE-SE. The SE end of this bank also terminates at the edge of the ravine. A short arc of a possible fosse occurs outside the middle bank E-SE. The interior is level. There are two possible hut sites (KE058-044001-, KE058-044002-) in the SW and SE quadrants, respectively. There is a possible causeway entrance through the inner (Wth c. 1.6m) and middle (Wth c. 2.4m) banks at E. Stone-facing occurs on both banks at either side of the entrance. A stream enters the intervening fosse at NNW and flows along its base through W, exiting at S over the edge of the ravine. In the 1940s a visit to 'the great fort on Fleming's land at Coolick' was recorded and the rath was described as having 'a high commanding position' and 'very high ramparts and [a] moat' (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club, 1946, vol. 2, 700). Another rath (KE058-043001-) is c. 60m to the S on the opposite side of the ravine.   Description

  Within the SW quadrant of a rath (KE058-044----). The remains of this possible hut site (diam. c. 8m N-S) is defined by an overgrown raised circular platform consisting of broken shaley stone. It is situated 7.5m due N of the S bank of the rath and c. 4m due E of the W bank. The S portion of the hut has been damaged by a mechanical digger.   Description

  In rough upland pasture, on a S-facing slope with views to Magillycuddy's Reeks. This stone circle consists of ten stones, some of which have fallen, of varying shapes and sizes (max. L 0.75m; max.   Description

  In improved meadow (to N) and rough, ungrazed pasture (to S), on a gentle S-facing slope. Oval area (dims. 24m N-S; 18m E-W) defined by a scarp (Wth 4m; H 0.8m) E->S->W which is levelled, yet traceable W->N->E. It is bisected by a field boundary (long-axis WNW-ESE) which consists of a mature hedge and a concrete post and wire fence. No corresponding feature depicted upon historic mapping. • KE058-245 Enclosure
  Description

  In pasture, on a small hillock. Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as the low remains of a large enclosure. There is no visible surface trace of an enclosure at this location. Naturally formed, elevated area of ground defined by steep slope to N and E and a more gradual slope to S (depicted as a contour on the OS six inch map). A potential cropmark of a pair of small, conjoined enclosures, located on top of the hillock, are evident upon modern aerial photography (OSi 2010). This is not evident upon more recent aerial imagery (Bing 2015). There is no visible surface trace of these at ground level.
