• KE085-014 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In undulating pasture, on a rise, overlooking the valley of the River Roughty. This rath is not visible at ground level though an associated souterrain (KE085-014001-) is visible. The rath is indicated on the 1895 OS 6-inch map as a sub-oval area (c. 30m N-S; c. 25m E-W). There is a children's burial ground (KE085-014002-) c. 70m to the SE. • KE085-014001 Souterrain
  Description

  In a levelled rath (KE085-014----). A roughly rectangular opening (L 1.8m; Wth 1.3m) reveals an entrance (Wth 1m; H 0.4m), below ground level (D 1m), defined by a stone lintel resting on drystone side-walls. Other lintels are also visible in the souterrain. The entrance is blocked with debris. According to the landowner, the drystone and lintelled passage continues in a SW direction for 3-4m from the entrance. • KE085-014002 Children's burial ground
  Description

  In pasture, on elevated ground, overlooking the valley of the Roughty River. A rectangular area (20m E-W; 12m N-S) which is raised (H 0.8m) above the external ground level. The area proved difficult to examine due to dense overgrowth. According to the landowner, low grave-markers, some of which are cross-inscribed, exist beneath the overgrowth. It is known as 'the cillín' and was left undisturbed when the surrounding land was being reclaimed. There is a rath (KE085-014----) c. 70m to the NW.
