Description
This site is located directly above the shoreline near the landward end of Cromane Spit. Access to it was not possible due to an impenetrable overgrowth of gorse. The site is described locally as an unenclosed burial area, of roughly circular plan, which contains rows of uninscribed, upright grave-markers. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 992. Description
In early 2018, a shell midden, consisting of a small lens of dark soil full of compacted shells, has become exposed on the NE facing shoreline. About 0.3m below ground level, the strip is 3.4m long, 0.5m thick with shells largely consisting of mussel shells with some cockle periwinkle shells also.
