Description
In rough hill pasture, on the S-facing slopes of Barrerneen. An oval area (8m E-W; 6.6m N-S) defined by a partially collapsed drystone wall (T 0.6m; H 1.4m). There is an entrance (Wth 1m) at E. Within a field system (KE102-082003-). The remains of a rectangular hut site (4.1m N-S; 2.2m E-W) defined by a well-built, partially collapsed drystone wall (T 0.8m; H 1.8m) which is best preserved at W. Description
In rough hill pasture, on the S-facing rocky slopes of Barrerneen. Collapsed stone walls, with numerous gaps, occur intermittently and indicate a field system covering an area c. 600m NE-SW x c. 450m N-S. The surviving walls (T 0.6m; H 0.5m), which are embedded in shallow soil, are generally curvilinear and enclose fields of many shapes and sizes. The walls contain upright base stones that are set at intervals and at right angles to the line of the wall. Rubble is scattered downslope from the walls. In pasture, at the foot of a steep N-facing slope. The partly grassed-over ruins of a limekiln (3.4m N-S; 3.4m E-W), cut into the slope at S. The front (H c. 1.6m) faces N. In rough, heather-clad, hill pasture, on the SE-facing slopes of Barrerneen. A D-shaped area (30m NW-SE), with a straight SE side (L 60m), defined by a partially collapsed drystone wall (T 0.7m; H 0.7m) . Large heather-covered stones in the lower courses of the wall protrude above the surface of the bog. Rubble from the collapsed upper courses of the wall is scattered along the perimeter. Description
In dry hill pasture, on the S-facing slopes of Barrerneen. Traces of mainly grass-covered, collapsed, curvilinear stone walls (T 0.6m; H 0.6m) suggest fields of many shapes and sizes throughout area c. 340m E-W x 420m N-S. Numerous gaps were noted in the walls. There are occasional patches of shallow bog in this area. The remains of an oval hut site (3.6m E-W; 2.4m N-S) defined by a drystone wall (T 0.5m; H 0.3m) which protrudes above the surface of the bog. In heather-clad, rough hill pasture, on a W-facing slope overlooking a river valley. The remains of a drystone wall (T 0.65m; H 0.4m) which protrude above the surface of the bog, extend downslope to the W for c. 150m. From this point another wall branches off to the S for c. 55m, then turns W and ends at a very large boulder. Linear sections of these relict walls form the W walls of two individual hut sites (KE103-040003-, KE103-040004-). Another hut site (KE103-040002-) is situated along the curvilinear stretch of wall, at c. 90m from its E end. Two other hut sites (KE103-0040005-, KE103-040007-) are c. 15m to the SW and c. 50m to the E, respectively. An enclosure (KE103-040006-) is c. 30m to the S. The remains of an irregular-shaped hut site (2.7m N-S; 2m E-W) defined by a collapsed drystone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.5m) at W, N, and along the N half of the E wall, by a boulder at the S half of the E wall and by a larger boulder at S. There is an entrance (Wth 0.5m) at SE between the two boulders. The interior is obscured by rubble. This hut site is situated along a curvilinear stretch of a wall from a network of relict field boundaries (KE103-040001-), c. 90m W of its E terminal. The remains of a curvilinear stone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.5m), which protrude above the surface of the bog (D 0.6m) at the S, extend to the N for c. 20m, turn to the W for c. 40m and then curve to the N for c. 35m. From this area another line of the wall extends in a general W direction for a distance of c. 50m. There are several gaps in the wall.
