  Description

  This site, situated in low-lying land, is roughly heart shaped. However, the S to W bank has been cut and levelled for c 14m by farm buildings. A fieldbank running in a NNE-SSW direction lies immediately to the E. This heart-shaped enclosure (KE010-046002-) is enclosed overall by a fairly well-defined earthen bank, with an internal diameter of 24m N-S and 23m E-W. The bank is 4m-6m wide at the base, .4m-1.2m high internally and c.5m high externally. This site is marked on the 1939 OS map as 'Burial Ground (disused)'. The above description is derived from C. • KE010-047001 Ecclesiastical enclosure
  Description

  This site is situated on low-lying land and the W sector would appear to have been cut by a fieldbank running in a NE-SW direction. No surface trace of a continuance of this site can be seen in the field on the W side of the fieldbank. What remains today is an inner triangular area surrounded by an outer earthen bank to the E through the S to W, while to the NE there are what appears to be the foundations of a building, possibly a church. The triangular area measures 54m long x 26m wide and is enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank with numerous gaps in it. The maximum external height of the bank measures elm, the internal height of the bank measures c .9m and the width of the bank at the base c 2m. Surrounding the bank from the SSW is an earthen ridge that curves in towards the S corner of the triangular enclosure. About 6m from the incurved point is another earthen ridge which runs NE for 29m. At a distance of 8m-24m from this ridge is an enclosing earthen bank, measuring 3m- 6m wide its base, c .7m high externally, and .8m high internally. In the NE sector there are the foundations of a possible church (KE010-047003-) though it is incomplete; a raised area is evident which was possibly aligned E-W. It was not possible to obtain full measurements, but it would appear to be 1.1m wide. About 12m from the E end, there is a roughly rectangular area jutting out, measuring 8m x 9m. This site is not marked on the 1841-42 OS map, but appears on the 1939 map marked 'Kyle Burial Ground (site of)'. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’.
