  Description

  Internal diameter 29.6m N-S This site is situated on a rise with the land gently sloping NE. A trackway runs immediately W of it. This site is marked on the 1841-42 OS map as a circular enclosure and 'cave' is marked in the interior; on the later edition map of 1915-16 the W section of the fort has been levelled. Today this site consists of a semi-circular bank constructed mainly of stones, within which are the remains of a collapsed souterrain. Enclosing the inner bank on the N and E side is a three-pointed enclosure that could possibly suggest later remains. The internal area measures 30m N-S; the E-W measurements could not be taken. The external height of the bank measures .8m, the internal height of the bank above the interior c .8m and the width of the bank at the base c 3m. In the NE sector of the interior, three stone-lined depressions are evident, the remaining chambers of the souterrain (KE009-001002-): they measure 4m x 2m, 3m x 3.4m and 8m x 1.4m. W of these collapsed chambers is an elongated mound measuring 6m x 3m. A slight fosse is to be noted to the NE 1m-2m wide. An outer bank at this section runs for 20m and is 2m wide and .4m high above the fosse. At a distance of c 8m from this bank is the three-pointed enclosure already mentioned. The external height of this three-pointed bank above the surrounding land is .3m, the internal height .2m, and the width of the bank at its base is 2m.   KE009-001001- is situated on a rise with the land gently sloping NE. A trackway runs immediately W of it.   Description

  Killeen burial ground is enclosed by a stone wall c 1.4m thick and c 2m in maximum height. The internal diameter measures 29.6m N-S and 26.2m E-W. A 1.6m wide gate is situated in the E wall. Numerous single stones are to be noted in the interior, and in the SW sector there is a large slab which is now broken. The 'Seven Churches' site of Kilmore lies SE of this site (KE009-009----).   Internal diameter 25m E-W This rath is situated at the top of a pastoral field which is gently sloping N.   Description

  Internal diameter 35m Lissaniska/Lios an Uisce (ringfort of the water). This univallate rath is enclosed to the NW through N to NE by a fieldbank. The site consists of a circular area enclosed by a well-defined earth and stone bank, the exterior side of which is much steeper than the interior. The enclosing bank is 4m-7m wide and rises to a height of 3.8m externally and 1.4m above the interior. An external fosse encloses the site, except to the S through W, and is 3m wide and 1m below the height of the surrounding land. A 7.6m wide gap to the SW provides access to the interior, which is at a higher level than the surrounding land. On the 1841-42 OS map 'cave' is marked in the interior (KE009-004001-). In the S to SE sector there is a raised semi-circular area 1.2m high, and leading out from the N and curving NW is a ridge c. 2m wide and c. 7m long, which could possibly be the tunnel remains. In the W sector there is an oblong mound (KE009-004002-) 1.6m x 5.2m internally and 1m high, and extending out from this and curving SE is a narrow ridge c 2m wide and c8m long. There is only a gap of c 6m between two ridges, so possibly they are one and the same tunnel where the middle section has collapsed. The above description is derived from C.   Internal diameter 26.4m N-S, 27.5m E-W The circular univallate ringfort is situated two fields E of KE009-004---- and a bohareen runs immediately W. The enclosing earth and stone bank is 5m wide and rises to a maximum of 1.2m externally and .8m above the interior. A 4.4m wide gap to the SE provides access to the interior, which is at a higher level than the surrounding land. Immediately inside the entrance is a large, fairly wet area. In the NW sector is a semi-circular area (KE009-005001-) which is curved inwards towards the bank; the enclosing bank is 2.8m wide and .6m high. Extending from the ringfort c 4m NE are the possible remains of a hut site (KE009-006----) measuring 6.5m E-W internally. It consists of a circular area enclosed by a bank, 2.5m-3.5m wide, which rises to a height of c 1m. A 2m wide gap to the SE provides an opening into the interior.   Description

  Internal diameter 34.4m N-S, 36.6m E-W This univallate cahir consists of a sub-circular area enclosed by a well-defined stone bank, though it is now grass-covered. The bank is on average 6m wide, 1m high above the interior and 2.2m high above the fosse. The external fosse encloses the whole site. It is quite shallow but still distinguishable, c 3m wide and .3m deep. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land and contained within are mounds which could suggest house sites or souterrains (KE009-007001, KE009-007002-). In the W sector is an oblong mound, 10m N-S and 1m-2m E-W. About 2.4m E of this is another mound, 3m N-S x 2m E-W and 4m high; SE of this feature is another small mound, 2m N-S x 2m E-W.   Situated SE of KE009-005---- in the corner of a field, univallate rath KE009-008---- consists of an oval area enclosed by an earthen bank on average 5m wide and rising to a height of 1m externally and .6m above the interior. The interior is at slightly higher level than the surrounding land, and in the N sector is an oblong mound (KE009-008001-) measuring internally 6.4m x 2m. • KE009-009 Church
  Description

  Seven Churches (site of). This site is reputed to have originally contained the 'Seven Churches of Kilmore', and though all the buildings have been levelled, there is still quite an amount of disturbances in the field marking the site. Today this site consists of an enclosure that measures 88m E-W. The S sector of the enclosure has now disappeared, so it is not possible to give its full dimensions. Within this enclosure is a large rectangular structure measuring 46m E-W x 26m N-S. The W side of this structure is cut slightly by a fieldbank running in a N-S direction. Extending out from the N bank of this structure is a bank which runs into another bank running in an E-W direction. The latter bank runs into a depression measuring 10m x 9m. On the W side of the fieldbank there is also a small mound, measuring 3m x 4m at the crest, the W side of which has been cut by the fieldbank. According to the landowner, several stones belonging to the 'churches' have been ploughed up and thrown into the nearby fieldbank. He also said that in the NE sector of the enclosure several stone slabs were uncovered, but no trace of these could be found today. The above description is derived from C.
