• KE058-093 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a N-facing slope, immediately S of a road. A circular area (diam. c. 35m) defined by the remains of two earthen banks, except along the N arc where it is truncated by the road. The inner earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.3m) and intervening fosse (Wth c. 3m) survive along the E and S arcs. The outer earthen bank (Wth 2.9m; ext. H 0.8m) is clearly visible NNE-S with a scarp surviving S-NW. The level interior has been slightly raised at N to compensate for the downslope though it still retains a slight slope down to the N. The NW quadrant is covered in overgrowth. There is a souterrain (KE058-093001-) in the interior. A linear feature (L c. 5m; Wth 3m), on a NW-SE axis, which abuts the internal face of the inner bank at E, may be associated with the souterrain. There is a possible entrance at S. According to the landowner, the interior was cleared in the 1990s during the construction of a house, located outside the rath to the E. There is a fulacht fia (KE058-138----) c. 70m to the W. • KE058-093001 Souterrain
  Description

  In a rath (KE058-093001-). According to the landowner, there is a stone-capped cavern or creepway under the briars in the interior of the rath. A linear feature (L c. 5m; Wth 3m), on a NW-SE axis, which abuts the internal face of the inner bank at E, may be part of the souterrain. No trace of the souterrain was noted, however, when the interior of the rath was cleared in the 1990s during the construction of a house to the E of the rath. • KE058-094 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a N-facing slope. A circular area (diam. 35m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.5m) which is covered with overgrowth in places. The flat interior has been raised in the N sector to compensate for the hillslope. There is a possible entrance at E and there is a gap at NNE. A ledge (Wth 6m), which is semicircular in plan and abuts the bank along the N arc externally, is built up (H 2m) above the external ground level. The ledge has a slight dip but is otherwise relatively flat. An E-W field boundary is immediately N of the ledge. On the 1894 OS 6-inch map the rath is shown as open at E. This is probably the rath recorded in the 1840s in the centre of Knockasarnet (OSNB, Aghadoe, no. 1, 37). A possible fulacht fia (KE058-137----) is c. 85m to the NW. • KE058-137 Fulacht fia
  Description

  In a recently seeded field, SE of a road junction. This possible fulacht fia is not visible at ground level. The landowner pointed out the location of a large mound of burnt material in the NW corner of the field. According to the landowner, the mound was levelled, spread out over the field and then covered with clay. There is a rath (KE058-094----) c. 85m to the SE. • KE058-138 Fulacht fia
  Description

  In rough marshy pasture, on a N-facing slope. A roughly horseshoe-shaped mound (c. 17m E-W; c. 15m N-S; H 1.1m) of burnt material protrudes above the surface of the surrounding bog and is almost totally obscured by dense overgrowth. The opening faces W. Some burnt material is exposed in the N portion of the mound. A rath (KE058-093----) lies c. 70m to the E.
