  Description

  A ringfort, known locally as 'Daitheens fort', was levelled about 4 years ago when a house was built on the site (local information). It was situated on a gentle S facing slope on the SW side of Tralee Bay. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 722. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013

  Description

  This stone is 'now preserved in the yard of the Roman Catholic chapel in Castlegregory [see KE036-100----]', it was 'formerly incorporated in the wall of the graveyard [KE036-003002-]' at Killiney (Cuppage 1986, 305-7, no. 854).

  Description

  Terraced four-bay three-storey house, built c. 1880, having rubble stone built five-bay two-storey return to rear. Now also in use as public house. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack. Painted rendered walls with ashlar limestone quoins. Render removed around pubfront. Timber pilaster pubfront to right ground floor having frieze, moulded cornice, timber display windows and double-leaf doors. Timber two-over-two pane sliding sash windows with painted stone sills. Plinth blocks to square headed doorway, having timber double door with overlight.

• Saint Mary's Catholic Church, church/chapel, 1830–1835 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached four-bay double-height Catholic church, built 1831, on a cruciform plan comprising two-bay double-height nave opening into single-bay (single-bay deep) double-height transepts centred on single-bay double-height shallow chancel to crossing (south). Repaired, 1939. Pitched slate roof on a cruciform plan with ridge tiles, cut-limestone coping to gables including cut-limestone coping to gable (north) with Celtic Cross finial-topped cut-limestone gabled bellcote to apex, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves with cast-iron downpipes. Rendered battered walls. Pointed-arch window openings in tripartite arrangement with sills, timber mullions with timber transoms, and concealed dressings framing six-over-six timber sash windows. Pointed-arch window openings in quadripartite arrangement (transepts) with sills, timber mullions, and concealed dressings framing fourteen-over-fourteen timber sash windows. Lancet "Trinity Window" (south) with sills, and concealed dressings framing fixed-pane fittings having leaded stained glass panels. Pointed-arch door opening (north) with two cut-limestone steps, and margined cut-limestone block-and-start surround having chamfered reveals framing diagonal timber boarded double doors. Pointed-arch window opening (gable) with sill, and concealed dressings framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fitting having leaded stained glass panel. Set in landscaped grounds on a corner site with roughcast-panelled rendered piers to perimeter having shallow pyramidal capping supporting wrought iron double gates.

  Pair of end-of-terrace three-bay single-storey stone-built houses, built c. 1870, originally thatched and retaining original fenestration to south-east. Semi-detached three-bay single-storey rubble stone-built house, built c. 1870, to south-east with corrugated-iron roof, now derelict with window openings blocked-up. Pitched corrugated-iron sheet roofs with concrete copings and rubble stone chimneystacks. Sandstone rubble walls, painted or limewashed. Timber lintels to east buildings. Concrete replacement lintels to west buildings. Timber shutters to north-east house Remains of two-over-two pane timber sliding sash to south-east house. Attached three-bay single-storey rubble stone-built outbuilding, built c. 1870, to south possibly incorporating fabric of earlier house. Two pairs of semi-detached houses to site, facing each other across a laneway off Main Street.

  Description

  Formerly detached five-bay single-storey corrugated-iron-clad railway station, opened 1891, retaining original aspect. Closed 1939, now disused. Pitched corrugated-iron sheeting to roof with profiled cast-iron gutter and downpipe. Corrugated-iron sheeting to walls with concrete plinth, timber corner posts and entablature at eaves. Timber sills to timber six-over-six pane sliding sash windows. Timber panelled doors. Attached three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1920, to north-west, possibly originally station master's house. Railway tracks lifted and removed.
