  Within a field system (KE083-023002-). A stone-built enclosure (diam. c. 15m) defined by a crudely built wall (T 1.2m; H c. 0.8m), two to three courses high, of rough stone boulders. The entrance location is difficult to determine due to collapse. Relict walls are visible in an aerial photograph (GSIAP, V 298-7) extending from the enclosure along the NW and NE arcs. There is a hut site (KE083-023012-) within this enclosure and another hut site (KE083-023013-) lies c. 30m to the SW. • KE083-023002 Field system
  Description

  On a terrace in the S-facing slopes of Knockleama. This field system, which covers an area measuring 700m N-S x 1300m E-W, consists of relict stone walls (Wth c. 0.6m; H c. 0.4m) which survive to one or two courses high. The walls are mainly curvilinear and protrude above the surface of the bog. There are many gaps in the walls and occasionally the walls disappear into deeper bog. In many instances the junction of the boundaries are walled off to form corner enclosures. The remains of the walls suggest a layout of fields of varying shapes and sizes as are visible in an aerial photograph (GSIAP, V 298-297) taken in 1973. A crescent-shaped sod-covered mound (7m N-S; 5.3m E-W; H 1.1m) of burnt material with its opening (1.3m N-S; 0.5m E-W) facing a stream to the E. Two other fulachtaí fia (KE083-023027-; KE083-023029-) lie c. 11m to the SE and c. 43m to the N, respectively. A horseshoe-shaped sod-covered mound (7.5m N-S; 4.5m E-W; H 0.9m) of burnt material with its opening (2.1m N-S; 1.4m E-W) facing a stream to the W. Two other fulachtaí fia (KE083-023026-, KE083-023028-) lie c. 11m to the NW and c. 34m to the SSW, respectively.   Description

  In rough hill grazing with occasional surface stones, on a terrace on the S-facing slopes of Knockleama and within a field system (KE083-023002-). The remains of a circular hut site (diam. 2.8m NE-SW) defined by a stone wall (T 0.6m; H 0.4m) which protrudes above the surface of bog SW-NE. Occasional traces of the wall are visible on the ground surface NE-SW. There is another hut site (KE083-023006-) c. 25m to the NW.   Description

  Within an enclosure (KE083-023016-) and within a relict field system (KE083-023002-). The remains of a roughly D-shaped hut site (1.2m E-W) defined by a stone wall (T 0.45m; H 0.2m) with a straight W side (L 1.6m) formed by the W wall of the enclosure. • KE083-028 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  A circular enclosure is marked at this location on both editions of the OS maps. The site survives as a 1.35m high circular platform which measures 27.8m N-S x 29.4m E-W. Coniferous trees border its SE sector, where a stone-built field boundary abuts it. A shallow depression below the platform at W is the only indication of the former presence of a fosse. It measures 2m wide and .3m deep. The site is described in the OSNB as a 'fort having a cave in it' (KE083-028001-) (Templeno, 3). It is located on a low scarp, directly E of a tributary of the Blackwater river. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.   In rough pasture, on a S-facing slope.
