  Description

  In pasture, on a gentle N-facing slope. A circular area (30.5m E-W; 29.5m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.95m; ext. H 0.9m) with some stone inclusions. A break (Wth 2.5m) at NW may indicate an entrance and several cattle breaks also occur. Some deciduous trees grow intermittently on the bank and on the nearby field boundaries. It is probably one of the two raths recorded in the 1840s in the N side of the townland (OSNB, Nohovaldaly, 11). In the 1940s it was recorded that this rath, was in Daniel O'Keeff'e's land (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). • KE060-011 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In level pasture. This rath is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m). A curving field boundary (Wth 2.1m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1.6m; L c. 12m) may follow the line of the E arc of the rath. This is probably one of the two raths recorded in the 1840s in the N side of the townland (OSNB, Nohovaldaly, 11). Subsequent to the site inspection, archaeological test trenches were excavated in the area of the rath (Kiely 2003b, 172). These revealed that the levelled bank varied in width between 4m and 6m and also uncovered a fosse (Wth c. 3.5m) c. 1m outside the bank (ibid.). In the 1940s it was recorded that this rath, which was in Dan Kelliher's land, was no longer evident (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry).   Description

  To the rear of houses on the S side of the street in Rathmore. The partially collapsed random rubble front wall (H 2.9m; Wth 3.55m) of the kiln faces N. An arched recess (Wth 1.55m; D c. 1.2m), off-centre to the right, is partly infilled with dumped material. The rear of the kiln is badly damaged and covered with overgrowth.   Description

  In level pasture, on a slight S-facing slope with views to The Paps of Dana. A circular area (diam. 7m) enclosed by a fosse (Wth 3.4m; D 0.4m) SE-W and by faint traces of a fosse W-SE. An external earthen bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.6m) is evident ESE-NNE and a low intermittent bank NNE-ESE. There is a break (Wth 2.8m) in the bank W-WNW.   Description

  In level pasture to the SE of Rathmore village. A two-storey gable-ended house. The front elevation (NE) is of five bays, the central bay being slightly recessed. There is a central rectangular door ope with a rectangular overlight. The house is gable-ended with a chimney on each gable and some brick is visible on the left hand side chimney. There is a cornice under the eaves at the front. There are one-storey additions to the rear. A stone coachhouse is adjacent to the SE and there are further outhouses to the rear.   Description

  In pasture. A spread of burnt stones (c. 5m N-S x 6m E-W) is visible. This is most likely the fulacht fia recorded in John P. O'Donoghue's land in the 1940s (Schools Manuscript, Co.   Description

  In level marshy grazing land, to the S of Rathmore. Burnt material (L 12m; D 0.7m) is exposed on opposing faces of a N-S V-shaped drain. A spread (20m N-S; 18m E-W) of burnt material intermixed with spoil is evident on the uneven surface of the W side of the drain and another (20m N-S; 4m E-W) on the E side. This is probably the fulacht fia measuring '400 sq. yds [334.4 sq. m]' which was recorded in the 1940s in Daniel O' Keeffe's land but from which material was 'drawn onto the road' (Schools Manuscript, Co. • Rathmore Railway Station, railway station, 1850–1860 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached L-plan seven-bay single- and two-storey railway station, opened 1855, comprising two-bay two-storey central block with two-bay single-storey lean-to open timber canopy to ground floor, two-bay two-storey gabled advanced end bay to west and three-bay single-storey wing to east. Partly renovated, refenestrated and extended to west in late twentieth century, with single-bay single-storey flat-roofed end bay. Pitched slate roofs covered by later bituminous covering and artificial slate roof to booking office, having timber bargeboards and cast-iron rainwater goods to dwelling. Exposed snecked sandstone walls with limestone quoins and eaves course to station master's house. Booking office now rendered. Replacement timber windows with limestone lintels having segmental-arched undersides, and limestone reveals and sills. Timber panelled door to booking office. Exposed timber truss collar to booking office interior. Moulded architraves to doors and window. Single-arch cast-iron pedestrian bridge over railway line, built c. 1855, to west with pair of flights of steps. Detached single-bay single-storey over raised basement signal box, built c. 1855, to west retaining original fenestration with flight of steps to entrance and two-bay side elevations. Pair of semi-detached three-bay single-storey sandstone-built former railway worker’s houses with dormer attics, built c. 1855, to west, retaining original fenestration to house to west with segmental-headed openings and single-bay single-storey gabled advanced end bays. Detached single-bay single-storey sandstone-built railway goods shed, built c. 1855, to east originally with elliptical-headed integral carriage arch to centre, renovated with opening remodelled. Sections of natural stone cobbled platform, built c. 1855. Pair of pedestrian gateways, built c. 1855, to west comprising wrought-iron piers with wrought-iron gates. Level crossing to west.
