• KE048-081 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a S-facing slope. A circular area (26.9m E-W; 26m N-S) defined by a partially levelled bank (int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.1m) ESE-NE and by the faint trace of a bank NE-ESE. A slight trace of a fosse is visible S-NE. The interior slopes down to the S. This rath is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as a multivallate circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) and on the 1897 OS 6-inch map as a bivallate circular enclosure (diam c. 35m). • KE048-190 Castle - motte
  Description

  Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as extant mounds. Conspicuous oval mound (dims. 18m NW-SE; 8m NE-SW) of which c. 9m has been quarried along the NE-side. Mound is defined by a steep scarp (Wth 11.2m; H 2.75m) S->N, is reduced to a low scarp (Wth 3.2m; H 1.25m) N->SE where partially excavated in antiquity and is gradual SE->S. Top of mound is level in centre and slopes down to SW across the SW-half; small quarried area in S quadrant. Scarp is obscured by dense vegetation S->N. • KE048-192 Enclosure
  Description

  Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as an extant enclosure. Roughly circular area (diam. 28m) defined by the remains of a low profile earthen bank (Wth 8.8m; int. H 0.05m; ext. H 0.85m); best preserved W->N. Interior is featureless and has a SW-facing aspect. Driveline extends from gateway in field boundary at SW and around perimeter of monument W->N. • KE048-194 Enclosure
  Description

  Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as extant banks. There is no visible surface trace of an earthwork at this location. Remains of two linear field boundaries (long-axis NW-SE) located adjacent to NE and SW of a backfilled quarry (recorded as KE048-193----). Linear feature to SW is a low, levelled bank and that to NE is a low scarp. These may have enclosed the quarry from the surrounding field, for safety or be part of an earlier field system. Some of these correspond to boundaries seen on earlier mapping, however they could also form an enclosure as this is the only distinct vantage point that overlooks motte, possible (KE048-190----) and could therefore be part of a larger archaeological landscape. • KE048-283 Fulacht fia
  Description

  In wet semi-circular basin, on a very gentle SW-facing slope. Area covered by rushes and long grasses and is fenced off from rest of field. Low, irregular rise of dark soil and heat shattered stone; edges could not be completely defined due to growth of vegetation and pooling of water underfoot. According to local information, this was found during land improvements when drains were inserted across this poorly drained area. This monument was recorded during the course of fieldwork. • KE048-284 Enclosure
  Description

  In pasture, on a gently sloping area of a NW-facing slope. Adjoins motte, possible (KE048190----) to SE. Roughly square area (dims. c. 60m NW-SE; c. 56m NE-SW) defined by scarp (Wth 1.75m; H 0.45m) to SW and scarp (Wth 14m; H 1.35m) to NW; Field boundary defines NE-side. Gap (Wth 3.8m) in WNW corner. Interior has gentle downslope to NW and is c. 3m above the poorly drained, flat area surrounding it WSW->N, known as ‘the water field’ (local information).
