Recorded monuments
- KD017-001 Ringfort - rath
Description
At the bottom of a low, gentle, S-facing pasture slope overlooking the SW-flowing Slate River c. 200m to the S. A large, poorly preserved, sub-circular area (int. diams. 48m N-S; 45m E-W) is defined by a low earthen bank (Wth 1.8m; int H 0.4m; ext H1-1.7m) SE-SW-NNW, which is hedged as a field boundary, and by a shallow outer fosse (Wth 1-2.5m; D 0.2-1.1m). The fosse is recut as a later field drain outside the bank and later field banks radiate off the monument at SE and NW. The interior is heavily poached by livestock at W and rises gently towards a level sub-circular, central area (diams. 16m E-W; 13 m N-S). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011

Description
Shown as a circular 'Rath' on Taylor's 1783 Map of County Kildare and on the 1st ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular, enclosed copse (est. diam. c. 60m). On level pasture. The monument survives as a low, circular hillock (diam. c. 40m; H 1-2m) with no visible surface trace of an enclosing element. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011

Description
Marked as a circular 'Rath' on Taylor's 1783 map of County Kildare and shown on the 1st ed. (1837) of the OS 6-inch map as a roughly square, enclosed copse (est. dims. c. 40m x c. 40m). On level rough grazing. No visible surface trace of the monument survives. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
- KD017-007 Church
Description
Near the centre of a graveyard (KD017-007001-) on the site of a possible ecclesiastical enclosure (KD017-00702-). A fairly poorly preserved rectangular structure (int. dims. L 13.3m E-W; Wth 4.5m) is built in two phases; the older W-two-thirds is built of large, roughly coursed, limestone blocks (wall T 0.88m), while the later E-end is built of much smaller limestone blocks and flags (wall T 0.85m). The building is entered through a fine round-arched, sandstone doorway (Wth 0.85m; H 1.8m) in the W gable wall, above which a partially robbed-out, small, square-headed window lit a loft, further evidence of which is provided by opposing beam-slot holes at the W end of the N and S walls. The building was lit by four, now partially robbed-out, windows in tall round-arched embrasures; one mid-way along the S wall, two opposing windows near the E end of the N and S walls, and a fine, tall, narrow, round-headed, sandstone window in the E gable wall. A partially robbed-out aumbry survives in the N wall, to E of centre. The interior contains several piles of grassed-over collapsed rubble, and in 1987 it was noted that ivy cover and overgrowth had been recently removed by burning (SMR file). The church may be pre-Norman, but the presence of imposts in the doorway suggests a late-12 century date (pers. comm. T. O'Carragáin). Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
- KD017-007001 Graveyard
Description
In open, level, improved pasture c. 20m W of a steep, modern embankment bordering the SW-flowing Slate River. A sub-rectangular area (dims. L c. 70m NW-SE; Wth c. 50m) is enclosed by a low, mortared stone wall (T 0.6m) and contains a church (KD017-007----) to SE of centre, to the S of which the majority of burials occur; marked by small, plain stones. Three headstones near the S wall date to the 18th and 19th c. Along the N and E, the enclosing wall retains an earthen bank which may be the remains of an earlier, ecclesiastical enclosure (KD017-007002-). - KD017-007002 Ecclesiastical enclosure
Description
A graveyard (KD017-007001-) containing a church (KD017-007----) is enclosed by a mortared stone wall, part of which, along the N and E, retains the outer face of a low, broad, earthen bank (Wth 3.9; int H 0.5m; ext. H 1.4m) which may be the remains of an earlier, ecclesiastical enclosure. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
