Recorded monuments
- KD008-016 Enclosure
Description
On a very low knoll surrounded by slightly lower, poor, wet pasture. A fairly well-preserved circular area (int. diam. 23m; ext. diam. 56m) is defined by three, low, concentric earthen banks (Wth 4.2m at W-7.4m at S; H 0.1m at E-1m at S) separated by two shallow fosses (Wth 1m at N-6.4m at W; D 0.5m), with traces of a third, outer fosse (Wth 1.8m;D 0.6m) visible from SSE to SSW. Between E and S the middle and outer banks are very denuded, and from SSE to NNW the outer bank and it's associated inner fosse are no longer visible at ground-level. The interior contains a possible house (KD008-016001-) in the NE sector. The monument was described in 1955 as a ringfort with three fosses and three banks, with an entrance at the NW and with a possible hut site in the interior (SMR file). No obvious visible trace of an entrance survives. Despite the presence of a possible house site, the siting of this monument together with the relatively insubstantial enclosing elements is not typical of ringforts, one of which (KD008-023----) lies c. 100m to the SW. The morphology does suggest a ringbarrow, except for the presence of an outer fosse. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
- KD008-016001 House - indeterminate date
Description
In the N sector of a multivallate enclosure (KD008-016----). A grass covered, earthen, square area (dims. 7m N-S; 7m E-W) is defined by a low scarp (H 0.4-0.6m). It may be the remains of a house. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
- KD008-023 Enclosure
Description
On a very slight S-facing slope in poor, wet, rushy, rough grazing, c. 30m SSW of a larger enclosure (KD008-016----). A very poorly preserved circular area (diam. 23m) is defined by a low scarp (H 0.6m) with traces of a very low, earthen bank along the E (Wth 1-1.3m; H 0.1-0.2m), and by a narrow, shallow, outer fosse (Wth 1m; D 0.2m), which is crossed by a causeway (Wth 2m) at N.
