  Description

  In a built up suburb of Newbridge town. Shown on the 1st ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map as the S part of a circular enclosure (est. ext. diam. c. 45m) truncated by a road NW-N-NE, the enclosing element from ENE-SE acting as portion of the townland boundary between Piercetown and Moorfield. No visible surface traces survived in 1986, the area being a small open space skirted along the W by a modern curving access road to a housing estate (SMR file).   Single-arch rubble road bridge over railway line, c.1870, with cut-stone voussoirs, cut-stone stringcourse, and cut-stone coping to parapet wall. Broken coursed squared rubble stone walls. Cut-stone stringcourse. Cut-stone coping to parapet walls. Single elliptical arch. Cut-stone voussoirs. Rubble stone soffits with render over. Sited spanning Great Southern and Western Railway line. Grass banks to railway line.

  Attached six-bay single-storey yellow brick railway station, opened 1846, comprising two-bay single-storey central block with single-bay single-storey recessed flaking bay to right (north-east) having single-bay single-storey recessed entrance wing to right (north-east) with single-bay single-storey open cell to attic (sheltering stairwell), and two-bay single-storey recessed wing to left (south-west). Gable-ended roofs with slate. Clay ridge tiles. Rendered chimney stacks (one of yellow brick base having cut-granite quoin dressings). Cut-stone coping to gables. Cast-iron rainwater goods on eaves course. Yellow brick Flemish bond walls. Cut-granite quoins to corners. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite mullions. Cut-granite sills and block-and-start surrounds having hood mouldings over. 1/1 timber sash windows with fixed-pane overlights. Shallow pointed-arch door opening. Cut-granite chamfered doorcase. Timber panelled double doors. Set back from road in own grounds. Tarmacadam forecourt/carpark to site.

  Single-arch cast-iron footbridge over railway line, built 1846, approached by flight of steps to north-west (with open stair well cell to railway station to south-east). Red brick walls to flight of steps. Round-headed blind openings following gradient of steps with red brick voussoirs. Cut-granite steps over having cast-iron railings. Single shallow segmental arch with cast-iron beams having cast-iron deck panels over and lattice work wrought iron parapet walls. Sited spanning Great Southern and Western Railway line in grounds shared with Newbridge Railway Station complex.

Part refenestrated, c.1985. Now in use as offices. Gable-ended roofs with slate (gabled to projecting bay). Clay ridge tiles. Rendered chimney stacks. Cut-stone coping to gables. Cast-iron rainwater goods on eaves course. Roughcast walls. Painted. Cut-granite dressings including quoins to corners. Cut-granite walls to canted bay window.
