• KD031-021 Enclosure
  Description

  In level improved tillage – local mapped field boundaries and woodland have been removed. Although not recorded on the 1st ed. (1839) of the OS 6-inch map, the monument is shown on the latest ed. (1909) as a raised oval area (est. max. diams. c. 50m NE-SW; c. 45m NW-SE) defined by a scarp. No visible surface trace survives, but a 1968 aerial photograph (CUCAP AVM020) shows the cropmark of a fosse enclosing a roughly circular area, and the same cropmark is also visible on a 1990 aerial photograph by Dr. Gillian Barrett (GB90.BC.06). • KD031-022 Enclosure
  Description

  In level tillage. A 1967 aerial photograph (CUCAP ASU 82) shows the cropmark of a fosse enclosing a large circular area (est. max. diam. c. 60m). No visible surface trace survives. A soil mark visible on the aerial photo encroaching onto the monument at W is shown as a pit or depression on the latest ed. (1909) of the OS 6-inch map. On the ground it is an oval area (30m N-S; 20m E-W) of lush grass growth. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 08 October 2013

• KD031-039 Enclosure
  Description

  Identified during an aerial photographic survey by Dr. Gillian Barrett on 13-7-1990. Aerial photograph (GB90.BC.06) shows the cropmark of a triangular enclosure defined by a fosse and set within a heart-shaped outer enclosure defined by two fosses. May be remnants of demesne landscaping, although none of the features appear on the 1st ed. of the OS 6-inch map (1838). The cropmark of a nearby enclosure (KD031-021----) c. 130m to the WNW, is also visible on the photograph. Skerries House located 120m to NNE with similar polygonal shaped enclosure or walled garden immediately SW of house as depicted on OS 25-inch map. Cropmark of polygonal shaped feature in field to S is similar in shape to the polygonal shaped enclosure to SW of Skerries House.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey over part-raised basement house, c.1860, on a symmetrical plan retaining some original fenestration with single-bay single-storey gabled projecting porch to centre approached by flight of steps. Renovated and extended, c.1995, comprising two-bay two-storey lean-to recessed end bay to west with single-bay single-storey lean-to advanced porch. Hipped roof with slate (gabled to porch behind pediment). Clay ridge tiles. Roughcast chimney stacks. Overhanging timber eaves on brackets. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Lean-to to recessed end bay. Artificial slate. Roughcast walls. Painted. Rendered stringcourse to ground floor. Rendered band to eaves. Rendered walls to porch with rendered piers and pediment to gable. Roughcast walls to end bay. Unpainted. Rubble stone walls to advanced porch. Square-headed window openings. Stone sills. Replacement uPVC casement windows, c.1995. Some original 6/6 timber sash windows to side and rear elevations. Square-headed door opening approached by flight of stone steps. Glazed timber panelled double doors. Interior with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Set back from road in own landscaped grounds. Gateway, c.1880, to south-east comprising pair of rendered panelled piers with wrought iron gates.
