  Description

  On a SE-facing slope. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3606, Area A). A cluster of post/stake-holes centred around a small pit in the north of area A. The pit contained three small sherds of middle Bronze Age pottery. Samples from this pit yielded a radiocarbon date of 1081-921 cal BC (UBA-14022). A second cluster to the S formed a rough NE-SW line, possibly representing a fence. One of these post-holes was radiocarbon dated to the middle Iron Age (356-117 cal BC (UBA-14021)).   Description

  On a SE-facing slope. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3606, Area B). Two troughs and two pits were identified in Area B. A dark stain was all that remained of burnt mound material. Trough 1 was subrectangular and contained four post/stake-holes in its base. A small pit lay to the E but its function was unclear. Trough 2 lay to the E of Trough 1. Twenty stake-holes were found around the edge. Two samples from the troughs yielded radiocarbon dates of 1740-1630 cal BC (UBA-14023) and 1874-1641 cal BC (UBA-14116).   Description

  On a SE-facing slope. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3606, Area D). The badly disturbed remains of a burnt spread (6m N-S; 4m E-W) with two troughs and a possible water cistern to the E. One trough was flat-bottomed and subrectangular, the second trough was linear and had four pits immediately to the W. A concentration of post-holes was located between the troughs. A hearth was located in the W of Area D. 10m NE of the hearth a small slot-trench containing 4 post-holes was found with intercutting pits. A radiocarbon sample from the hearth yielded dates of 41 cal BC – cal AD 55 (UBA-14024). A post-hole in Area D yielded dates of 762-416 cal BC (UBA-14025).   Description

  On a W-facing slope in heavily ploughed agricultural land. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme (Licence no. E3671). An oval-shaped pit with a small flue extending at SE and evidence of intense burning. A single deposit contained a mixture of burnt clay, charcoal and other waste material. Three pits found 8m to the E and SE were interpreted as waste pits. A sample of charcoal from the fill of the pit returned a radiocarbon date of 750-408 cal BC (UBA-14026).
