  Description

  A subcircular area (dims c. 38m N-S, c. 26m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3.4m, int. H c. 0.8m, ext. H c. 1.4m) and external fosse (Wth c. 2.7m) at N and E. No evidence of original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P.   Description

  A circular area (diam. c. 38.5m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 3.1m, int. H c. 0.5m, ext. H c. 1.2m) and external fosse (Wth c. 2.7m) from SW-NW. Possible original entrance at E. Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 141) refers to a chamber here and suggests that the ringfort may be the site of a castle (LA021-030002-). • LA021-030002 Castle - unclassified
  Description

  In an upland area. Reference to a building or possible castle here inside the ringfort (LA021-03001-). No visible surface remains of castle marked on the Down Survey (1654-7) map (NLI, MS 720). Described by Carrigan as 'At one of the corners is a small chamber about 5 ft. square, its walls about 3 ft. thick. This is probably the site of Killismestia castle, which is entered on their maps by the Down Surveyors' (Carrigan 1905, vol. 2, 141).
