• LE035-002 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located towards the top of the NW-facing slope of a drumlin and directly N of rath (LE035-003----). This is a grass-covered circular area (diam. 26.4m N-S; 25m E-W; int. diam. 21m E-W; 18m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 8-12m; int. H 0.2-0.3m; ext. H 1.1m at S to 2.2m at E and W), and an external fosse (Wth of top 6.8-7.6m; Wth of base 1.6-3m; ext. D 0.2m at E) NW-E-SW, but the fosse is shared with rath (LE035-003----) SE-S and morphs into a berm (Wth 2.5m) S-W. There is a slight mound (diam. 6m) at the centre, but the original entrance is not identified. • LE035-003 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located towards the top of the NW-facing slope of a drumlin and directly S of rath (LE035-003----). This is a grass-covered circular area (int. diam. 32m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 6.5-8m; int. H 0.3-0.5m; ext. H 0.5m at S to 1.8m at N), reduced to a scarp (Wth 8m; H 2.5m) at E, and an external fosse (Wth of top 7.3-10m; Wth of base 1.5-3m; ext. D 0.15m at W to 0.7m at N) which is shared with rath (LE035-002----) at NW. The original entrance is not identified, but there is a local tradition of a souterrain in the interior. • LE035-042 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in improved pasture on a platform that rises slightly from a NW-facing slope. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority. This is a D-shaped area (dims. 23m NW-SE; 20m NE-SW) defined by a slight scarp (at S: Wth 1.3m; H 0.15m) with traces of a fosse (at S: Wth of top 4.6m; Wth of base Wth 1.8m; D 0.1m) ESE-W-N. The perimeter is truncated at ENE by the tree-lined raised carriageway (H c. 4-5m) of the NNW-SSE N4 road. There is no visible fosse or entrance. • Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception, church/chapel, 1835–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached single-cell Roman Catholic church, built in 1839, with four-bay nave, central breakfront to gabled entrance elevation and single-storey sacristy to north-east. Pitched slate roof with profiled cast-iron rainwater goods, stone pinnacles and bellcote. Cut sandstone walls with ruled and lined render to south. Pointed-arched window openings with cut-stone surrounds, tooled sandstone sills and stained glass windows. Pointed-arched central door opening with stained glass over replacement timber doors flanked by pointed-arched door openings. Date plaque to breakfront. Graveyard with grave markers dating from the mid nineteenth century to present. Site enclosed by random coursed stone walls with decorative cast-iron gates flanked by ashlar gate piers.
