• LE018-018 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Situated on top of a drumlin c. 180m S of a loop on an E-W section of the River Shannon. This is a grass and rush-covered oval area (int. dims 31m E-W; 25m N-S) defined by a stone spread (Wth 2-3m) with some bushes where facing-stones are intermittently visible. A field wall on top of it has collapsed, and both features have been removed at E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. • LE018-019 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located towards the top of the NE-facing slope of a drumlin, c. 180m from loops on an E-W section of the River Shannon. This is a grass and rush-covered circular area (diam. 26m E-W; 24m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.5-0.8m) with some bushes and a slight external fosse (Wth of base 2-2.5m) visible as a band of rushes. There is an entrance, visible as a slight dip in the perimeter, at SE. The monument is bisected by an old N-S field drain, and slightly truncated by an E-W field bank at S.   Description

  Located towards the top of a gentle SE-facing slope near a house. A circular mound (diam. 4.15m; H 1.4-2.6m) contains a circular chamber (int. diam. 2.2m) with a corbelled roof (H 1.8m) and an entrance (Wth 0.7m; H 1.1m; L 1.1m) at SE.
