- LE015-005 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a shelf of a S-facing slope. This is an overgrown subcircular area (int. dims 30m NW-SE; 25m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5-7m; int. H 0.2-0.9m; ext. H 1.5-2m) N-NE and SE-W, with an outer fosse (Wth of base 1.5m; D 0.5m) N-NE. There is a stone facing along the inner edge of the bank SE-SW and the bank is reduced to a scarp (H 0.6-1.2m) at SE and NW. The original entrance is not identified. Description
Located on a shelf of rock outcrop on a S-facing slope in mixed woodland. This is a circular area (int. diam. 27.4m NW-SE) defined by the remains of an extensively robbed drystone wall with inner and outer facing-stones intermittently visible (Wth of wall 2m at N). There is no identifiable original entrance and the perimeter is reduced to a scarp (max. H 1-1.4m) at SE. Description
On the edge of a bluff (at W: H c. 10m) overlooking a valley with a small N-S just to the W. This is a grass-covered oval area (int. dims 27m N-S; 17.7m E-W) defined by a scrub-covered stone spread (Wth 3-4m; max. H 1m) which is best preserved SE-W. Facing-stones are intermittently visible, but the width of the wall cannot be gauged, and an original entrance is not identified. An abandoned house overlies the NE quadrant. Description
Detached three-bay single-storey with attic house, built c.1875. Pitched slate roof extended over front entrance with catslide to rear. Pebbledashed walls. Replacement uPVC windows with red brick dressings to window openings. Replacement uPVc door with red brick dressing and canopy above. Decorative cast-iron gates and piers to front site.
