• LE030-018 Road - road/trackway
  Description

  Located at the bottom of a steep NE-facing slope with a small SE-NW section of a stream c. 10-20m to the NE. It is depicted as a linear feature (L c. 250m) only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This is an overgrown abandoned roadway (Wth 6.5m) flanked by a scarp (H c. 2.5m) upslope at the base of the hill (surviving L c. 75m) and having a low earthen bank (Wth c. 2m; H 0.4m) over a scarp (Wth 5m; H 2.6m) on the lower side with a berm (Wth c. 4m) separating it from the stream. The relict road runs parallel with the present R204 Carrigallen to Ballinamore road. It was reputed locally in the 1940s (SMR file) to have been a famine road that was never completed. Other sections continue it c. 300m to the N (LE030-005---) on the E bank of the stream, and c. 1.5km to SE (LE030-029---). • LE030-029 Road - road/trackway
  Description

  Situated in a broad valley bottom. It is depicted as a linear feature only on the 1907 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This is an overgrown disused roadway visible as a sunken area (Wth of base 6.5m) extending NNW-SSE (L c. 170m). It is flanked by a scarp (H 0.7m) surmounted by a low earth and stone bank (Wth of base 4.6m; H 1.4-1.6m) to the W, and by an earthen bank (Wth of base 6.8m; Wth of top 2.9m; H 1.3-1.5m) to the E. It is bisected by an ENE-WSW access road and is free of overgrowth S of this. The relict road runs parallel with the present R204 Carrigallen to Ballinamore road, and it was reputed locally in the 1940s (SMR file) to have been a famine road that was never completed.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey former glebe house, built in 1813, now in use as a farm house. Hipped slate roof with ashlar chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods and a carved stone eaves course. Coursed cut limestone walls with rendered central breakfront with ashlar parapet and date plaque. Stone flat-arches to window openings with tooled stone sills and replacement uPVC windows. Paired timber sash windows to rear elevation. Central bow window and flanking wings removed c.1950. U-plan multiple-bay two-storey outbuildings enclose rear cobbled yard.
