• LI019-163 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  In pasture, in NW corner of field with stream adjacent to N. In area of outcropping limestone. Circular area (diam. 1.4m) enclosed by dry-stone wall (H 1m). A recent concrete surround further encloses well on N side jutting out into stream. Well, heavily masked by vegetation cover, is partially covered by a wooden beam. A metal beam has been inserted across the well below the water line. By the 1950s, according to Ó Danachair (1955) 'the well has disappeared and no tradition survives'.   Description

  In pasture, atop low limestone hillock. Oval area (28.5m N-S; 32m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.75m). Bank, best preserved WSW->NNW, is clipped by S field boundary SSE->SW.   Description

  In pasture, in area of outcropping limestone, immediately N of dry-stone field wall. No visible surface trace evident of burials discovered when bungalow built here in 1972 and site subsequently archaeologically investigated (Wallace 1972, 59-60). Investigation concluded that 'this was some sort of mass burial of the victims of some form of plague or fatal epidemic'; there was no evidence for the date of this mass burial.   Description

  In low-lying gently undulating terrain, contained within small field covered by dense vegetation overgrowth. Roughly circular area (46.6m N-S; 51.3m E-W) enclosed by earth-and-stone bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1m), which is best preserved SE->S, and incorporates linear field boundary SW->WSW. Gap (Wth 5.8m) in bank at NNE. Level interior, under rough grazing, is divided in two by earth-and-stone bank (H 0.45; L 30m) on NNE/SSW axis which merges with enclosing bank at S.   Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey former creamery, built c. 1900, having porch to front (north) elevation, five-bay single-storey extension to east and single-bay single-storey extension to rear (south) elevation. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Pitched slate roof to east extension with cast-iron roof lights. Half-hipped slate roof to porch. Roughcast rendered walls. Square-headed openings having four-over-four pane timber sliding sash windows and concrete sills. Square-headed opening beyond porch with timber panelled door. Pair of round-profile rubble limestone piers to north with rubble cappings and rubble limestone boundary walls with rubble limestone cappings.
