  Description

  In slightly undulating pasture. Depicted on current edition OS 6-inch map as L-shaped earthwork (L c. 70m N-S) with a return (long-axis WNW-ESE) to W (L c. 60m) at N-end. Remains consist of levelled earthwork defined by slight scarped edge (L c. 75m; Wth 3.5m; H 0.3m) (long-axis E-W) which formed N arm of earthwork. This feature would seem to be the remains of a raised avenue shown on the 1840 OS map leading to the country house Castle Lloyd; this house does not survive.   Description

  A rock annotated 'Cloghadalton' on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map may mark approximate location of Cloghdalton Castle in the townland Castlelloyd. Westropp (1906-7, 103) recorded the following details about Cloughadalton Castle; 'Cloughdalton Rock is in Castle Lloyd, and the townland adjoins last. 1578 Tirlagh mac Brien held Cloghdallatowne, "one C[astle] (Inq. Exch. 7, 10). 1583-1586 Conor mac Brien, Coonagh, held Cloghtallon, C[astle]. (Des. R.,74 ; Peyton, p. 24). 1655 Clogdalton held by Connor mac Brien (C.S., xxiii., p. 3; B.D., p. 36; Petty, 67). 1668 Granted to Harding and Henry (Act Sett.). 1688 Coldalton in Ulloe (Trustees' Map, 24)'.   Description

  Detached three-stage circular-plan turret, built c. 1840, having battered base with cut limestone platband. Red brick parapet with limestone machicolations. Render over limestone walls. Remains of wall abutting east elevation. Square-headed window openings to first stage. Lancet openings to second and third stages. Blind cross loop to third stage. Square-headed door opening to south elevation.
