In a conifer plantation, 70m E of watercourse that forms townland boundary with Ballynahinch. A possible barrow (LI048-021----) and an enclosure (LI040-134----) lie 90m to the SW and 110m to the NE respectively. Not marked on OSi historic maps. Identified as a circular feature on aerial photographs (BGE 1/5000 2571) taken 03/11/1984 on Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline. No surface remains visible on Digital Globe orthoimage and on Google Earth orthoimages. Faint outline of possible ditch barrow visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 28/06/2018. Description
In wet pasture, immediately S of watercourse that forms townland boundary with Hammondstown. Rectangular-shaped earthwork (LI040-133----) now in forestry to S. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a circular shaped platform defined by a scarp with fosse transected at NNW by stream. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised circular shaped area (diam. c. 27m) defined by a scarp, with fosse truncated at NW by a watercourse running NE-SW. Monument visible on aerial photograph (BGE 1/5000 2571) taken 03/11/1984 on Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline. Poorly preserved monument visible as depicted on the 1897 ed. Two barrows (LI040-120----; LI048-070----) lie 66m to the NE and 40m to SW, respectively. Not marked on historic OSi maps. Description
In wet pasture, in the SE corner of a coniferous plantation, 28m W of townland boundary with Mitchelstowndown North. An enclosure (LI048-023----) lies 100m to the S. Depicted as a pond on 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map and not as an antiquity. Indicated as a non-antiquity where it is shown as a D-shaped area (dims. c. 39m N-S; 33m E-W) indicated with a solid line in the same fashion as the surrounding field boundaries. Visible as a rush covered dried up pond on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-13. Pond feature possibly a natural water feature or a designed landscape pond associated with nearby country houses.
