  Description

  In wooded area, on NE-facing hill-slope. Roughly circular area (diam. c. 20m), enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.4m). Bank is completely masked by overgrowth NW->E.   Description

  In graveyard (LI012-03602-). Site of C of I parish church of Kildimo, described by Lewis (1837) as a 'small and very neat, was rebuilt in 1705'. According to O'Donovan this occupies site of ancient parish church (OSL vol. 1, 60-1; Westropp 1904-5, 386). Westropp gives the following details on Kildimo; 'A parish in Kenry. Diomma (son of Cass, king of Munster), c. 450, was of Cill Dioma, in Caenraighe, May 12th, c. 480. Kelldima, 1201; Kildyme, 1302. In 1358 David Dencourt held Kildim perpetual vicarage, which, on his death, 1363, was granted to John Pastyn, a poor priest (Cal. Papal Petitions, iii., pp, 329, 398); Kildyma, 1418 ; Kyldymma in Kenryhurragh, 1586 (Peyton, p. 217); Kildimo, with Killecollum, Kilcurrely, Killasuragh, and Killenarrigie, in Kenry, granted 1666 (Act. Sett.), Map D.S. (B), 16. Site - Modern I. C. church on the old site' (Westropp 1904-5, 386). In 1840 the church site was described as 'The site of the original church of this parish is occupied by a small rude protestant church and there is nothing in the churchyard to attract the notice of the antiquarian' (OSL vol. 1, 60). Described by the ASI in 1996 as no surface remains visible. A 19th century C of I church was subsequently built on the site, which has now been demolished. A modern house, the gable of which is c. 4m outside the W boundary of the present day graveyard, appears to occupy the footprint of the 19th century protestant church. This house is clearly evident on Digital Globe aerial photographs taken 2011-2013 and Google Earth orthoimage taken 29/03/2019. See attached Google Earth orthoimage.   Description

  Sub-rectangular graveyard (36m N-S; 52m E-W) enclosed by roughly coursed mortared stone wall (int. H 1.2m; ext. H 1.5m); approached from road to E via short avenue, wrought iron entrance gate with stone piers. Earliest headstone noted dated 1804. Area where early 18th century C of I parish church of Kildimo (LI012-036001-) stood contains headstones dating from 1930s. New graveyard adjoins to S.   Description

  Indicated as small settlement on the 17th century Down Survey map of Kenry barony (Hib. Reg.). Annotated ‘Kildimo’ (Old) on 1840 OS map. Divided into two villages during the early nineteenth century, when a new mail road was built between Limerick and Tralee’ (Spellissy 1989, 193).   Description

  In pasture, near the base of a W-facing slope, with a marshy area 20m to the NW. A horseshoe-shaped mound (H 0.85m; 15.1m N-S; 8.3m E-W) of burnt material. • LI012-144 Burial ground
  Description

  Archaeological excavation by Linda G. Lynch (05E0880) uncovered 'the remains of six individuals ... four of these were left in situ, while the remains of two individuals were excavated, as they were in immediate danger of being damaged. The excavated skeletons were of two juveniles, one aged 6–9 years and the other aged 12–14 years at time of death. Both had been interred at the same time. Samples taken of the burial fill revealed the remains of insects directly associated with the skeletons. These were analysed by archaeoentomologist Eileen Reilly. Two species were identified, Calliphora vicina/vomitoria and a Phoridae fly. Both are directly associated with decomposing flesh. Initial assessment indicates that there may have been a significant delay between the time of death and the time of burial.'
