Description
At the top of a sheer cliff, on the S shoreline of the River Shannon estuary. The site is completely covered by a dense overgrowth of bushes and briars, but appears to be a level D-shaped area (c. 20m E-W; c. 6m N-S) defined by the straight cliff-edge to the N, and enclosed E->W by a fosse (D 0.6m; Wth 3m) with an external flat-topped bank (int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.6m; Wth at top 6m), with a berm (Wth 4m) at the external base of the bank, beyond which is a steep scarped edge (H 3.1m; Wth 6m). At the base of the scarp the ground is waterlogged. Description
Church 'on the west angle' of Loghill parish (Westropp 1904-5, 398) listed in 14th century rental and 17th century terrier (ibid.). According to Westropp exact location of site 'forgotten in townland' (ibid.) but recent discovery of 'a large altar shaped stone' is believed locally to indicate location of church (see- www.limerickdioceseheritage.org). Westropp recorded the following details about Kilteery Church; 'Kailtyry, in the Manor of Leamkail, 1336 (rental); Kilteery on the west angle of the parish, 1657 (D.S. (B) 14); Lisrady, or Lisready, Church, near Kilteery, in Connelloe, 1667 (Limerick Terriers, P.R.O.I., No. 41). Site - Forgotten in townland. Description
In undulating pasture, on E-facing slope. Oval area (34.5m N-S; 38m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.85m; ext. H 1.5m), with external fosse NNW->NNE (Wth 1.2m; D 0.25m) and SE->SW (Wth 1.2m; D 0.2m). Much of enclosing element and interior are overgrown with gorse. West half of interior level but E half slopes down to E following incline in surrounding terrain. Inside the bank at E and SE are two depressions: depression to E (9.8m N-S; 4.4m E-W; D 0.5m) has some large slabs at E end; depression to SE roughly square in plan (L 12m) and covered by dense overgrowth. Description
In undulating pasture, on an E-facing slope. An upright stone (H 1.2m; T 0.25m; Wth 0.3m), leaning slightly to the N, with its long axis aligned NE-SW. It is triangular in profile, tapering towards the top (Wth at top 0.17m). Packing stones are evident at its base, some of which have worked loose. Description
L-plan limestone pier, built c. 1845. Coursed rusticated limestone battered walls, with supporting ramp to east elevation. Tarmacadam carriageway having cut limestone flagstones to walkway and fluted cast-iron bollards around edge. Tapered limestone capstans. Concrete steps to sea to west of pier, cut limestone steps to east.
