• LF009-020 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a low hillock in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure surrounded by trees and with the designation ‘Fort’ on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. On the 1914 edition trees are only shown within the interior. The monument has been levelled. The outline of its enclosing elements, a bank and an external fosse, may still be distinguished, defining a roughly circular area (diam. c. 42m). ‘Cavan House’ lies c. 120m to the W and it is likely that the tree planting relates to landscaping associated with the house. • LF009-021 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a low rise within a hollow. A raised subcircular area (44.3m N–S; 42m E–W) enclosed from NNW–N–ENE and from SE–S–WSW by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 5.8-6.2m; H 0.65-0.9m) and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 1.9-2.2m). A wide intervening fosse (Wth 6.4-8m; D 0.7-1.5m) and an outer bank (Wth 4-6.4m; H 1-1.5m) are also evident. The external face of this bank has been modified and incorporated into a field boundary.
