Lead and copper mine noted by Bassett (1886, 243). Now closed. Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 19 June 2012
- LH016-003001 Church
Description
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Undivided nave and chancel (max. dims. 12m by 6m) built of rough boulders, limestone blocks and greywacke slabs. Only the W gable survives to near its original height and has plasterwork still adhering to its inner face. It is almost featureless except for part of a window in the E end of the S wall, a window ope in the E end of the N wall and a probable doorway in the E end of the S wall. No dressed stone is evident but the size of the church and the position of the doorway suggest a late medieval date. (CLAJ 1944, 292)
- LH016-003002 Graveyard
Description

- LH016-009001 Enclosure
Description
Situated on a slight S-facing slope. The cropmark of an oval enclosure (dims c. 60m E-W; c. 35m N-S) defined by a single fosse feature is visible on the OSI series of aerial photographs (1995), but the perimeter is absent ESE-S-SW. It is associated with the field system (LH016-009002-), and a road (Wth c. 5m) defined by two ditch features meanders W of the enclosure (L c. 50m). The church (LH016-003001-) is c. 75m to the N, and it was probably contemporary with it. The enclosure was first identified by Ivor Kenny. See the attached enhanced view from Map Genie (1995) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 19 December, 2014
- LH016-009002 Field system
Description
Situated on a slight S-facing slope. The cropmarks of small rectangular fields (dims c. 60m x c. 40m) defined by single ditch features can be seen on the OSI series of aerial photographs (1995). They cover an area of c. 12 acres (c. 5 ha), and are associated with the enclosure (LH016-009001-) and the road (Wth c. 5m) that meanders W from it (L c. 50m). The church (LH016-003001-) is just to the N and the fields are probably contemporary with it. The site was first identified by Ivor Kenny. It is also visible on OSI images (1995) and Aerial Premium (2013-18), and it was first reported by Jean Charles Caillére. See the attached enhanced view from Google Earth (21/07/2021) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 22 October 2021
- LH016-011 Enclosure
Description
Situated on a N-facing slope. The cropmark of an oval enclosure (int. dims c. 68m E-W; c. 46m N-S) defined by two closely-spaced and regular fosses or ditches (max. ext. dims c. 80m E-W; c. 60m N-S) is visible only on a Digital Globe (2011-13) image. The ditches are slightly cut by a NE-SW field bank at NW and the ditches are so regularly parallel that it may represent an unmapped copse defined by a field bank with internal and external drains. It was first reported by Jean Charles Caillére. See the attached enhanced view from Digital Globe (2011-13) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 21 January 2022
