  Description

  In pasture, on the S outskirts of Kiltimagh town, located on a natural rise with good views over a broad sweep of lowlying, gently undulating pasture and bog. A raised circular area (33.3m NW–SE; 32m NE–SW) defined by an earthen scarp (H 1.3-1.5, Wth of slope 2-2.5m at SW; H 2m, Wth of slope 3.3.5m at NE) which retains a slight internal lip on the SW arc. A section of the scarp at W–NW is incorporated into a later field fence, and other sections of the scarp also show evidence of modification where the external face has been cut to the vertical or retains traces of stone facing. A poorly defined ramp-like slope (Wth 2m) in the scarp at ENE may be the site of the original entrance. A property fence crosses the interior roughly centrally on a NW-SE axis. In the centre of the interior, abutting the NE face of the fence, is a very slight D-shaped rise (11m NW–SE; 4m NE–SW), defined on the straight side by the fence. Abutting the opposing, SW side, of the fence there is a D-shaped depression (5.7m NW–SE; 2m NE-SW; D 0.3m). The significance of these features is unclear. The interior is grassy, and the perimeter is ringed with blackthorn and hawthorn, with some blackthorn scrub encroaching on the SW half of the interior. • MA080-029 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located in pasture, encompassing a natural rise. A laneway, flanked by stone walls, skirts the perimeter at NW–NE. There is a modern house and garden immediately to SW. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure (diam. 25-30m), and on the 1919 edition as a roughly D-shaped enclosure with a N−S field boundary forming the straight side at E. A grass-covered subcircular raised area (c. 35m overall diameter) with a domed profile, which appears to be the remains of a partly levelled rath. The centre (diam. c. 10m) of the rise is level but the ground falls from there in a broad slope levelling out again gradually towards the perimeter. The most pronounced or domed part of the overall rise has a diameter of c. 25m. It has been boxed in by later field walls with the laneway bordering the NW–NE side, a field wall on a NW–SE axis clipping the E side, and the remains of another field wall/scarp (H 1m) skirting the perimeter S–NW. Cutting across the perimeter at E there is a an irregular-shaped pit (5m E–W; 5m N–S; D 0.6-0.8m) from which a trench (L 7.5m; Wth 0.8-2m; D 0.5m) extends to W through the rising slope of the enclosure; this appears to be a quarry pit.   Description

  Façade of attached three-bay three-storey or triple-height crow stepped gable-fronted cinema, built 1944; opened 1944. Burnt, 1957. Now disused. Rendered wall on rendered plinth with moulded rendered surround supporting crow stepped parapet. Square-headed central door opening below cantilevered concrete canopy with concrete step threshold, and concealed dressings framing glazed timber double doors having sidelights on panelled risers below overlight. Square-headed window openings (upper floors) with rendered "Cavetto" sills, and concealed dressings with hood mouldings over on ogee label stops framing timber casement windows. Street fronted on a corner site with concrete footpath to front.

• Catholic Church of the Holy Family, church/chapel, 1885–1890 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached eight-bay double-height Catholic church, built 1887-8; dated 1888; dedicated 1888; extant 1895, comprising seven-bay double-height nave opening into seven-bay double-height lean-to side aisles centred on single-bay full-height apse (east) on a semi-circular plan with single-bay single-storey gabled projecting porches to entrance (west) front centred on single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch. "Improved", 1914-6, producing present composition. Renovated, 1982, with sanctuary reordered. Reroofed, 1998. Replacement pitched slate roof with lean-to slate roofs to side aisles, clay ridge tiles terminating in wrought iron Cross finial to apex (east), cut-limestone "slated" coping to gable to entrance (west) front on drag edged tooled cut-limestone corbel kneelers with tuck pointed drag edged dragged limestone ashlar buttressed gabled bellcote to apex, and uPVC rainwater goods on cut-limestone "Cavetto" consoles retaining cast-iron octagonal or ogee hoppers and downpipes with rosette-detailed straps. Rendered, ruled and lined walls on rendered chamfered plinth with drag edged rock faced cut-limestone clasping buttresses to corners having drag edged tooled cut-limestone "slated" coping. Paired lancet window openings (clerestorey) with drag edged tooled cut-limestone flush sills, and concealed dressings having chamfered reveals framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having stained glass margins centred on square glazing bars. Paired lancet window openings (side aisles) with drag edged tooled cut-limestone flush sills, and concealed dressings having chamfered reveals framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having stained glass margins centred on leaded stained glass panels. • Catholic Church of the Holy Family, presbytery/parochial/curate's house, 1885–1895 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey parochial house, extant 1895, on an L-shaped plan with two-bay (north) or single-bay (south) two-storey side elevations. Renovated. Replacement hipped artificial slate roof on an L-shaped plan with ridge tiles, cement rendered chimney stack originally paired[?] having corbelled stepped stringcourse below capping supporting terracotta pots, and uPVC rainwater goods on rendered "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornice retaining some cast-iron conical hoppers and downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered rendered, ruled and lined walls on rendered chamfered plinth with diamond pointed rusticated rendered quoins to corners. Camber-headed central door opening with threshold, rendered doorcase with pilasters supporting moulded archivolt, and concealed dressings having bull nose-detailed reveals framing timber panelled door having overlight. Camber-headed window openings with cut-limestone sills, and concealed dressings with hood mouldings over on "Acanthus"-detailed consoles framing replacement uPVC casement windows replacing two-over-two timber sash windows. Interior including (ground floor): central entrance hall-cum-staircase hall retaining timber surrounds to door openings framing timber panelled doors, staircase on a dog leg plan with balusters supporting banister terminating in newel, and moulded plasterwork cornice to ceiling; and timber surrounds to door openings to remainder framing timber panelled doors with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Set back from street in landscaped grounds shared with Catholic Church of the Holy Family.
