• MA111-062 Enclosure
  Description

  In pasture, located on a rise providing good views, with a gently fall of ground to W and NW, in an area of generally lowlying, poorly drained terrain. An oval embanked circular enclosure is shown the 1838 OS 6-inch map. An oval tree-planted enclosure (35m NW−SE; 28m NE−SW) delineated by a solid line is shown on the 1930 edition. • MA111-063 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  In pasture, located on a broad, low rise, with good views, in an area of generally lowlying, poorly drained terrain. Not shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; a roughly circular hachured area is shown on the 1930 edition. This ringbarrow was extant when inspected in 1982. It consisted of a central platform (9m N–S; 9m E–W) enclosed by a rush-grown, water-logged fosse with a broad, low external bank (Wth c. 4m). The central platform appeared to be at a lower level that the surrounding field level, and was somewhat irregular in plan as a result of disturbance to the S side. The overall diameter was 23m N−S by 23m E−W (crest to crest of bank). (SMR file: OPW field notes 1982). The ringbarrow was levelled during land reclamation later in the 1980's. When inspection in 2000, the outline of the central platform and the enclosing fosse could be discerned as slight surface undulations. • MA111-064 Enclosure
  Description

  In the grounds of a ruined 19th-century country house, which stands c. 15m to W of the enclosure, with a range of farm buildings immediately to E. This possible rath is shown on the 1930 OS 6-inch map as a circular hachured enclosure (diam. c. 25m). It survives as an oblong or roughly D-shaped platform (22m N–S; 18m E–W) defined S–W by a curving scarp (H 2m; Wth slope c. 4m), which retains a slight internal lip (Wth 0.8m; int. H 0.1m) and probably preserve the original curve of the enclosure. Elsewhere there is evidence of considerable disturbance: The scarp W–NW is dilapidated and appears to have been modified or partly truncated in the past. At N the scarp (H 1.4m; Wth slope c. 3m) is clipped by an E–W farm road bordered by a wall. The E–SE side of the platform presents a linear vertical scarp (H 2.5-3m) resulting from the truncation of the enclosure to allow construction of a slatted shed, which stands immediately to E. The level top of the platform is engulfed in a thicket of laurel bushes. According to local tradition, soil excavated during the construction of the big house was added to the enclosure. • MA119-018 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, located on a S-facing slope. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure (diam. 20-25m), and on the 1915 edition as a roughly oval hachured enclosure, quarried out at the W end. A field inspection in 1984 recorded ‘an irregular, probably oval enclosure’ (c. 35-40m N-S; c. 40-45m), which was bounded at E-SW by an irregular scarp (H c. 2m at E-S), with slight remains of a shallow external fosse; there were traces of a possible outer bank at S; elsewhere the perimeter and the interior, bar a small portion at SE, had been entirely quarried away (SMR file 1984). • The Heath, farm house, 1835–1845 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached five-bay two-storey over part raised basement farmhouse, extant 1847, on a T-shaped plan; single-bay (two-bay deep) full-height central return (east). Sold, 1863. Occupied, 1901; 1911. Vacated, 1957. Now in ruins. Hipped roof now missing with no rainwater goods surviving on overgrown cut-limestone eaves. Overgrown rendered, ruled and lined walls. Round-headed central door opening with no fittings surviving. Square-headed window openings with cut-limestone sills, and concealed red brick block-and-start surrounds with no fittings surviving. Interior in ruins. Set in unkempt grounds with tooled limestone ashlar piers to perimeter having pyramidal capping.
