  Description

  In gently undulating pastureland. The Killeen River is located 170m to S. This monument is shown on the 1838 and 1930 OS 6-inch maps as an oval enclosure (diam. c. 20m E−W; c. 15m N−S), with a circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) (MA061-173001-) conjoined to it on the E side. A field boundary on a NW−SE axis is shown on both the 1838 and 1930 maps extending across the NE edge of this enclosure (MA061-173----) and the SW half of the circular enclosure (MA061-173001-); on the 1930 edition, a N−S field boundary is shown cutting through the centre of this enclosure, and an E-W road is shown truncating the N edge of both enclosures. A low, oval grass-covered rise with gently sloping sides is visible at this location. There is no trace of an upstanding enclosing bank or wall. It is clipped on its N edge by the E-W road. The field fences shown on the 1838 and 1930 OS 6-inch maps are extant: The NW−SE field fence extends across the NE part of the rise, and the N-S field fence extends across the centre of the rise. This monument is shown on the 1838 and 1930 OS 6-inch maps as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m), with an oval enclosure (MA061-173----) conjoined to it on the W side. A field boundary on a NW−SE axis is shown on both the 1838 and 1930 maps extending across the SW half of this enclosure (MA061-173001-); on the 1930 edition a roughly N−S field boundary clips the E edge, and an E-W road truncates the N edge of the enclosure. The road and the field fences/hedgerows remain as shown on the OS maps; however, there are no remains of the enclosure visible at ground level. • Saint Luke's Catholic Church, church/chapel, 1830–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached four-bay double-height Catholic church, built 1835; extant 1838, originally three-bay double-height single-cell comprising three-bay double-height nave opening into single-bay double-height chancel (east). Dedicated, 1881. "Improved", 1928, producing present composition. Renovated, 1983, with sanctuary reordered. "Restored", 2002. Pitched slate roofs with trefoil-perforated crested clay ridge tiles, lichen-covered coping to gables on thumbnail beaded "Cavetto" kneelers with wrought iron-detailed flat iron Cross finials to apexes, and replacement uPVC rainwater goods on rendered eaves. Rendered, ruled and lined walls. Pointed-arch window openings with concrete sills, timber Y-mullions, and concealed dressings with hood mouldings over on monolithic label stops framing storm glazing over fixed-pane fittings having stained glass margins centred on leaded stained glass "lozenges". Full-height interior open into roof "restored", 2002, with carpeted central aisle between memorial pews, paired Gothic-style timber stations between stained glass memorial windows (undated) with one cut-veined white marble wall monument (ob. 1979), exposed strutted Queen post timber roof construction on beaded "Cavetto" corbels with wind braced timber boarded vaulted ceiling in carved timber frame on carved timber cornice, and pointed-arch chancel arch framing carpeted stepped dais to sanctuary (east) reordered, 1983, with Gothic-style altar below stained glass memorial "East Window" (1929). Set in landscaped grounds on a slightly elevated corner site.
