  Description

  Description

  Situated in boulder-strewn enclosed land close to the south-eastern shore of Lough Avullin. The fulacht fia lies 2m from the marshy lake shore and was c. 1m above the water level at the time of visit. It is visible is a spread (c. 3.5m NNE–SSW, c. 2.25M SSE–NNW) of small heat-fractured stone overlying and interspersed among natural boulders. The whole spread may be in a secondary position, possibly having been disturbed by local quarrying to build the adjacent boundary walls that fringe this part of the lake. However, at one point a small, vertical section face is visible (L 0.5m) in disturbed ground. A dense concentration of burnt stone and charcoal was visible (T 0.15m) here above a thin lens of peat (T 0.05m) that in turn overlay bedrock.
