• ME042-016 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  This is a subcircular domed (H c. 2m) and grass-covered area (dims 54m NE-SW; 42m NE-SW) defined by a scarp (at NW: Wth 5m; H 1.5m: at SE: Wth 4m; H 2m), with a slight outer fosse or drain S-N-E. An entrance is not identified but it is overlain by a NE-SW field bank towards the perimeter at SE. Rath (ME042-017----) is c. 30m to the NNE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). • ME042-017 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a rise at the bottom of a W-facing slope. This is a raised, subcircular and grass-covered area (dims 37.7m E-W; 31.4m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 1m), with an outer bank (Wth of base 3m; H 0.3m) NE-SE. An original entrance is not identified but there is a small mound (diam. 4.5m; H 0.3m) just N of the centre. Rath (ME042-016----) is c. 30m to the SSW. • ME042-018 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located on the broad summit of Coolderry Hill. This is a raised D-shaped and grass-covered area (dims 58m NNE-SW; 46m NW-SE) that slopes down (H 2.4m) to the SE defined by an earthen bank, often reduced to a scarp (at SE: Wth 3m; H 1.5m), and an outer fosse (at SE: Wth of top 7m; Wth of base 3m; ext. D 0.3m) N-SE, with an outer bank (at SE: Wth of base 3.5m; ext. H 0.6m) ESE-S. A NW-SE field bank truncates the monument at SW and a NNE-SSW field bank (at NW: Wth of base 6m; Wth of top 1.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 2.6m) and outer drain (at NW: Wth of base 2m; ext. D 0.9m) truncates it at W. The original entrance (Wth of base 4m) and causeway (Wth of top 6m; H 0.4m) are at E.   Description

  Situated on a SW-facings slope with a canalised SE-NW stream c. 80m to the SW. Topsoil stripping (02E0194) in advance of a gas pipeline identified patches of burnt mound material (BGE: 1A/32/1) but it was too ephemeral to excavate.   Description

  Situated in an undulating landscape. The cropmark of a rectangular area (dims c. 20m NNW-SSE; c. 20m ENE-WSW) defined by wide fosse or moat features (Wth c. 2-4m) and with an entrance gap at N is visible on Google Earth (14/07/2018).
