  Description

  Situated on a slight SW-facing slope in a low-lying landscape. This is a large subcircular to subrectangular grass-covered area (dims 56m NW-SE; 49m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 4m; int. H 0.2m at SW to 0.8m at NE; ext. H 0.9m at NE to 1.4m at SW), and an outer fosse (Wth of top 5m; Wth of base 2m; ext. D 0.3m) S-SW. It has curved corners at S, NW and N, and a gap (Wth of base 2.5m) at SE is probably the original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). • Catholic Church of the Assumption, church/chapel, 1820–1840 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached cruciform-plan gable-fronted church, built c.1830, flanked by projecting towers. Two-bay side elevations to nave, with single-bay transepts and single-bay chancel to the north-east. Castellations to entrance gable, castellations and pinnacles to towers. Pitched slate roofs. Roughcast rendered walls with limestone quoins. Pointed arch windows, with limestone dressings to entrance elevation. Porch additions to gabled entrance and transepts, sacristy addition to north-east. Graveyard to site.

• Ballinlough National School, school, 1840–1860 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay single-storey former national school, built c.1850, now in use as community centre. Comprising a central entrance bay with pair of recessed porches, flanked by gabled double-height bays. Pitched slate roofs with terracotta cresting and red brick chimneystack. Rendered walls with ashlar limestone quoins and plaques over entrance doors. Paired timber doors set in recessed porches, with ashlar limestone dressings to pointed-arched openings. Pointed arch window openings with limestone dressings and paired lancet windows. Cast-iron windows with limestone dressings to openings to sides and rear. Extension to rear.
