• ME036-045 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in an undulating landscape. This is a raised and circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. c. 39m) defined by a scarp (at NNE: Wth 2.2m; H 1.4m), with an outer fosse (at NNE: Wth of top 7m; Wth of base 3.7m; ext. D 0.5m) that only survives NW-NNE. The interior is cut by a NE-SW field bank and townland boundary with Readstown towards the perimeter at SE but the monument is not evident SE of this feature and much of the rest of the perimeter has been quarried. An original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987).   Description

  In December 1955 an inhumation burial was discovered during quarrying operations near Breemont. The grave pit (L 2m, Wth 0.36m) was aligned E-W. The individual (E001142) was 'reasonably advanced in years'. In the absence of any associated finds the date is uncertain (Cahill & Sikora 2011, vol 2, 407-8).   Description

  Situated on top of a sinuous NNW-SSE esker ridge. A small oval, grass-covered enclosure (dims c. 17m N-S; c. 14m E-W) defined by a small bank and outer fosse is most clearly visible on Google Earth (08/11/2019; 14/11/2019). It is also visible on Aerial Premium (2013-18), and it was first reported by Jean Charles Caillére.
