  Description

  Situated on a NW-facing slope. This is a raised circular and grass-covered area (diam. 52m NE-SW; 49m NNW-SSE) defined by a scarp (at SE: Wth 3.5m; H 1.6m; at NW: Wth 20m; H 3.5m), with a fosse (at SE: Wth of top 8m; Wth of base 1.5m; ext. D 0.7m) ENE-SSW. There is no identifiable original entrance and it is slightly truncated at SW by a NW-SE field bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). • ME030-014 Church
  Description

  Situated on a gentle SW-facing slope. The rectory of Tyllanoge was impropriate to the priory of St John the Baptist in Newtown Trim, and it is listed amongst the possessions of the priory at the Suppression in 1540 (White 1943, 301). Ussher (1622) describes the church as utterly ruined (Erlington 1847-64, 1, lxxxvi). This is confirmed by the Dopping (1682-5) and Royal (1693) visitations, which provide the information that it was dedicated to St Columba and was not enclosed (Ellison 1972, 11). Cogan (1862-70, 2, 368) records the church as measuring ’54 feet by 25 feet internally (c. 16.45m x c. 7.6m)’. The SW gable and the sunken area of a building orientated SW-NE (int. dims 13.3m NE-SW; c. 6m NW-SE) survive. There is a base-batter and a destroyed window embrasure are evident in the SW wall but the NW and SE walls are not traceable. The church is within a subrectangular graveyard (dims c. 48m NW-SE; c. 32m NE-SW) defined by masonry walls.   Situated on a gentle SW-facing slope. The parish church of Tyllanoge or Tullaghanoge (ME030-014----) is within a subrectangular graveyard (dims c. 48m NW-SE; c. 32m NE-SW) defined by masonry walls, but it was not enclosed in the late 17th century according to the Dopping (1682-5) and Royal (1693) visitations (Ellison 1972, 11).   Description

  Situated on a W-facing slope. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 40m) is depicted within a small wood on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a ‘Fort’ and as a hachured feature on the 1912 edition. It had been removed by 1969 (SMR file) and the site is now occupied by a house.   Description

  Situated on a fairly level landscape. The cropmark of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m) defined by a single fosse feature but with no visible entrance is visible on Google Earth (14/07/2018). The interior might have been quarried at some time and there is an annexe, visible as a crescent-shaped enclosure (max. dims c. 60m NE-SW; c. 15m NW-SE), attached to the SE. Enclosure (ME030-042----) is c. 90m to the WSE and the large enclosure (ME030-044002-) is c. 250m to the ESE. It was first reported by Ciaran McDonnell. A large pit (dims c. 30m N-S; c. 10m E-W) extends from the centre to the perimeter at N. Some ditches of a field system are adjacent, and a ring-ditch (ME0230-050002-) is c. 45m to the NNW.   Located on the summit of a broad hill. The cropmark of a small enclosure (int. diam. c. 6m) defined by a wide fosse (Wth c. 2m) is visible on Google Earth (29/06/2018; 14/07/2019). The perimeter at S is destroyed by a pit and the ring-ditch is within a small enclosure (dims c. 30m N-S; c. 30m E-W) connected by relict field drains to the perimeter of rath (ME050-050001-) c. 45m to the SSE.
