• MO031-086 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Located towards the bottom of the N-facing slope of a drumlin. It is depicted as an embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 30m) described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’ only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. No archaeological feature was visible at ground level in a cereal crop in 1984, but traces of an enclosure defined by two fosse features (ext. diam. c. 45) can be seen on the OSI series of images (1995). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 31 July 2017
